The Alliances
The alliances were groups of countries that fight together. This page shows
you how were the countries distributed on the alliances.
The 100 war
World war 1 was a very important event because it wasn't a normal war it was the
first World war. This one was the first war that involved more than two empires.
This empires were: Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary as The Central Powers
and Great Britain, France and Russia as the Triple Entente. The causes of the war
are many there are short term causes and long term causes. All of them were
important but some of them were more powerful talking about the consequences
they left. The final straw of the causes, the one that made the war began was the
assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand from Austria-Hungary. In 1917
two main things happened that change the course of all the war. The first one was
the Russian Revolution that made them leave the war. Because of her withdrawal
they were found himself obliged to sign what was called the treaty Brest Litovsk.
This treaty said that if they left the war they would be obliged not to attack the
other empires it was a peace treaty. The other thing that happened was the sanking
of the RMS Lusitania a submarine that Germany sank because they thought they
were transporting arms and weapons to the other empires. This irritated a lot USA.
The final straw was that Mexico start an alliance with Germany and Mexico was
the main rival of USA and the consequence was the including of USA to the war.
Another thing that debilitated The Central Powers was that Italy change side and
fought against their old alliance. This is why World War 1 is one of the most
important wars. When the war ended three big men created what it was called the
fourteen points. This three men were called the big three Woodrow Wilson the
president of USA, Georges Clemenceau the prime minister of France and Lloyd
George the prime minister of Britain. This three men created this fourteen points
for peace after war:
1. No more secret agreements ("Open covenants openly arrived at").
2. Free navigation of all seas.
3. An end to all economic barriers between countries.
4. Countries to reduce weapon numbers.
5. All decisions regarding the colonies should be impartial
6. The German Army is to be removed from Russia. Russia should be left to
develop her own political set-up.
7. Belgium should be independent like before the war.
8. France should be fully liberated and allowed to recover Alsace-Lorraine
9. All Italians are to be allowed to live in Italy. Italy's borders are to be "along
clearly recognisable lines of nationality."
10. Self-determination should be allowed for all those living in Austria-Hungary.
11. Self-determination and guarantees of independence should be allowed for
the Balkan states.
12. The Turkish people should be governed by the Turkish government. Non-Turks
in
the old Turkish Empire should govern themselves.
13. An independent Poland should be created which should have access to the sea.
14. A League of Nations should be set up to guarantee the political and territorial
independence of all states.
At the end of the war each leader of each empire decided to signed a tretay called
The Treaty of Versailles. This treaty was a peace treaty only signed for protection
of each empire.
The League of Nations was the first intergovernmental organisation that mained
concern was world peace. This league was created after the war in 1918 after the
Paris peace conference that ended the war.
