These sentences are similar to appositives! They are used to add further
information about a noun. For example:
Miss Rickwood, who loves cats, is looking for a new kitten.
London, which is the capital of the United Kingdom, is where members of
parliament meet.
7. Which one should I choose?
In these sentences you need to choose either who, which or where. How do you decide
which is the correct option?
If you’re talking about a person or animal – who
Mr Penney, who often wears a bow tie on a Friday, works at Ashcombe Primary school.
If you’re talking about an object – which
The printer, which is old and broken, is my newest renovation project.
If you’re talking about a place – where
Weston-Super-Mare, where Ashcombe Primary school is located, is filled with lovely
children.

There will be a sentence with a gap and you need to select
if it is who, which or where. Write the sentence out in your
book and fill in the word you think is the correct answer.

Your answer might look something like this:
In chapter 1 and 2 we meet the main character, Nim, who lives on an island
with her father, Jack. She also has two friends: an iguana named Fred and a
sea lion called Selkie. Her father is a scientist and leaves the island to
investigate plankton. He doesn’t arrive back on the island when Nim is
expecting him to so she is worried about him. She keeps checking the
computer for an email from Jack but doesn’t receive anything. Nim tries to
keep herself busy with her friends.

You could of written either wide or blue.
3. Look up the word ‘cyclone’ in a dictionary and write down the definition.
Your answer should say something like:

(northern hemisphere) or clockwise (southern hemisphere) circulation; a depression.

Your setting description can be about anywhere you like! It might be about your
house, your road, your town, an imaginary place, a place in a video game, a fairy
world.
Don’t get too carried away! This is a setting description and not a story! Lets take

Does it make sense? – try reading your writing aloud. This might help you
hear if it makes sense.
