“Peer/ recovery workers are skilled workers who have a lived experience of mental illness, either as a carer or
a consumer. They bring a blend of professional experience and insight to the service through their personal
understanding of the challenges facing consumers. They work alongside clinicians, sharing their experiences
with colleagues to increase awareness of the struggles people with mental illness face and to help them
understand support mechanisms that promote recovery.”
