Surface tension of liquids
makes it difficult to
penetrate and mix with
other chemicals.
Surfactants are used to help
the chemicals work with
each other. For instance,
the in a laundry detergent,
the surfactant helps the
water release the oils in the
clothing. The water becomes
“wetter.”

understand how surfactants
are really used in every day
life by so many and is
hardly understood by the
majority of people who
depend on them in their
daily use.
6. Why is it important?
Understanding the way water molecules interact
with other chemicals and the capillaries in the
body helps the embalmer reach the best penetration
of all surfaces of the body.
7. What more should we think about?
Knowing when and when not to use surfactants in an
embalming solution is something that seems to
come with time. From my understanding, it is
almost always a good idea to use some type of
surfactant or water conditioner. But not every does
use it.
