2. CNC Lathe Machine
• CNC lathe, is a machining process
which employs computerized
controls and non rotating single-
point cutting tools to progressively
remove material from the rotating
workpiece in the form of chips and
produce a final part.
3. Lathe Process
• Lathe machining uses single point cutting
tool to remove material by advancing a
cutter into a rotating workpiece.
• The cutter in lathe is usually moved parallel
to the axis of rotation so that cutting occurs
on the circumference of the work part.
4. • Base of CNC lathe sits on the ground or a table and
supports the other components of the machine.
• Headstock attached to the bed contains the servomotor
and drive system which powers the spindle. Spindle
supports and rotates the workpiece which is secured in a
workpiece holder such as chuck.
• Tailstock attached to the bed, supports the other end of
the workpiece and allow it to rotate.
• Tool turret can hold multiple cutting tools and rotates /
indexes the required tool into position to cut the workpiece.
• Carriage is a platform that slides alongside the workpiece,
allowing the cutting tool to cut away material as it moves.
Carriage moves on Linear motion guideways & advanced
by ball screw powered by servomotor.
