1. Leaders are Born or Built? I think this is not a new question which only came to
my mind but found many interesting view point on the internet as well and very
much debatable discussion. So before I start writing more let me clarify what is
Leader.
Leader
The person who coach group of people by giving right directions and guiding
them to achieve their person goals, in line with organisation goals. Leader is able
to influence people by inspiring them and by showing the future vision and bigger
picture.
Great Man Theory of Leadership
The Great Man theory is 19th century theory about leadership, the great man
theory believe that Leader are born with leadership qualities which they have
inherited from their parents or grandparents.
When I have read this theory, I was not convinced with this theory as if Leaders
are born / Inherit Leadership qualities then why every successful Political
Leader's son is not a Successful Political Leader? Why every Successful
Superstar’s son is not a successful superstar like him? And Why a successful
Entrepreneur’s son is going to Harvard University to Master Leadership skills?
Leaders are Made and not Born
Leaders are not born but can be made, when I am saying Leaders can be made,
then let me explain everyone can not become made leader by learning or
coaching because Leadership is by Choice. If some is coming forward to master
his/her Leadership skills then Leadership skills can be groomed. Great Man’s
theory is right up to some extent that people born with certain Leadership
qualities, that’s the reason few people come forward and take initiatives, you can
see sometimes when there is very heavy traffic and not moving due to any
accident or causality not everyone will come out of their car and take initiative but
some people who have few leadership skills within, those will come forward and
try to resolve the problem.
There is a slight difference between learning the skills and mastering the
skills, we can not teach leadership to anyone, we can not teach soft skills to
anyone. No one can become Leader by attending some Leadership sessions.
But Leadership skills can be improved and gradually someone can master
2. Leadership skills and similarly soft skills can be improved and mastered over the
period of time.
Leaders are neither Born nor made.
The answer is somewhere in between, No one is Leader by birth and no one can
be made leader by giving him Leadership training's.
People Born with certain traits, these traits can be groomed. The leadership Style
of a leader will depend on the internal qualities a person have.
and Leadership is situational, the effectiveness of your Leadership skills depend
on the situation and how to react to that situation.
