2. Question
• 4 Who would be the audience for your media product?
• Who are the target audience? habits/lifestyle/media
consumption (not just/age/gender/skin colour)
• What pre- production research did you conduct with them?
(Questionnaires, Result Graphs, Audience Profile)
• How did you use it? (Pretend that the film you developed was
in response to the target audience profile you developed in
your treatment)
3. • The target audience for our film is from ages 15 upwards. We have given
our film the age certificate of a 15 due to its violent nature and based
on the grounds that it includes taboo lexis.
• We believe that the main audience for our film will be between the ages of 15
and 20. This the younger end of our age range who are more likely to see the
advertising for our film, as one way we will advertise it will be using social
networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Given that the younger ages of our
society use these sites more frequently, they are more likely to hear about the
film.
• Our film, Runner, is a crime film based on the crime itself but also on
the investigation after. This may appeal to people who are interested
crime or becoming a police officer or a councillor, but also people who
live a life of crime. This is because our film will show the consequences of law-
breaking and what will happen in real life if you committed a crime, we hope
our film will help turn people away from this sort of life as they will see what
would happen to them. Our film will also show most of the investigation and
what the police often have to encounter on a daily basis, giving young people
an objective in life as they may decide that’s what they want to do.
• Our film will not focus on any particular regional identity, gender or race as we
know that crime can occur anywhere and that anyone can commit a crime. We
are hoping to break any stereotypes people may have about crime and
discrimination against particular nationalities, regions, gender, race or
religions.
4. Pre-production
• In pre-production we carried out some research
into what the public thought of our film. We printed
out a small overview of our film, let people read it
and then asked them some questions. One question
was Who do you think our film is aimed at? From this
we got mixed results, most people said both male and
females and that it was mainly for teenagers or 15+ we
also had some people who weren't sure and one who
said 30+. This shows that the age range we decided on
is also the same as other peoples opinions.
• We also did research into age certificates. This research enabled us to decide
on the age certificate of a 15 for our film. This is because both a U and a PG
are made for a younger audience, going with their parents. We thought about
making the film a 12 but decided that we wanted to show the violence and
include the taboo lexis. This made us decide on the rating of a 15.
• We also made an audience profile. We did this so we know who we were
aiming our film at. We decided it would be aimed at both male and female
and from ages 15 upwards. We didn’t want any particular race, religion or
nationality as we know crime happens everywhere and that anyone can be a
criminal. We didn’t want to add to any stereotypes, we just used the actors
that were available to us.
5. • Using the research we conducted we were able to make our film. We
included the violence we wanted though it had to be changed at the last
minuet due to a loss of props. We also included the taboo lexis as we
knew that we were able to due to giving the film an age rating of 15.
• We used the actors we had available to us as The fist person we cast
unfortunately could not make it to film so someone else stepped in.
Although all the actors you see in the first two minuets are male, the film
itself would include females and is still interesting to them.
• We did not incorporate religion into our film as it adds to the stereotypes
that we did not want to include. Most people believe that Muslims are
violent and often get caught for crime, but in reality crime can happen
anywhere and everywhere and we wanted people to understand that.
• Although we have black actors as the violent criminals we also have a
black/half cast police officer. This implies that not all black people are
criminals, as the stereotypes suggest.
