- So what is a personal statement? It is an essay or a written statement often written by prospective students applying to some educational institutions. It can also be written while applying for a job.
- Personal statement provides an opportunity to sell yourself. So there are two categories of personal statement. General Personal Statement and Response to a Specific Question. General Personal Statement provides maximum freedom in terms of what a student has to write while Response to a Specific Question often asks applicants to respond to a specific question by educational Institutions or Business in their statements.
- What not to be pit in a personal statement. Pointless Lists: Personal Statements should contain relevant information. Negative Things: Students need to focus on the positive. They should highlight their achievements. Students should not sell themselves short. False Claims: Students should make factual claims. Avoid exaggerations and boasting. Grammatical Mistakes: Students should proofread their statements and also ensure that their sentence structure is correct.
- So here comes the most important content of this video. What makes a personal statement standout? Eager to learn about it, so let’s go ahead. Structure: It is the key. Paragraphs should look effortless and coherent. Plan Ahead: Outline before you write an application. Be Original: Avoid using stereotypical sentences.
