3. Proposal sf 2017
1. Proposal

Working Title:
Tempus
Audience:
My target audience is 16-25 years old. The gender i am aiming towards is both males and female due to my
short film being uni-sex. I feel like my film will appeal to this audience due to it being a relatable film to
everyones life experiences. This gives the audience chance to interpret it how they want to. I feel like due to
my genre being artsy, it would generally appeal to females. However, i am including scenes which are
relatable to everyday life which will appeal to males. This is because they will be remembered of there child
hood due to the style being a documentary type film. This film will contain a female main character which
will contain female empowering scenes. This means the film will definitely be more aimed towards females.
This is because my film will contain elegant and intense moments which will explain a females growing up,
rather then a males. However, males may be interested in knowing the concept of a female and what they
have to grow up with. This again is relatable to both genders and will contain realistic scenes.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc.Use the Audience
Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why
would yourproduct appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
My progress throughout the yearhas improved. This is because when I first started college I had no
knowledge of how to use Photoshop, using a camera effectively and editing pieces in an interesting and
persuasive manor. I’ve learnt how to edit lighting on a camera, this is to give off a light and angelic or a dull
and gloomy effect. This makes the shots taken more effective and sufficient. I’ve learnt how to use premier
adobe to edit clips and audio togetherin a sequence. Before, I would have struggled to do this as I had no
idea what software to use and the equipment to achieve what I wanted. From using premier I have realised
how easy it is to put clips together. However, what I struggle with is linking the audio in with it. This is
because the audio I capture being disorientated. This is one aspect I need to work on due to it being a vitial
part of most productions that I will be completing through out the year.
From this subject I have learnt about different theories to do with colour schemes which has helped my
production through out this project. The theory I have been reflecting on is Plutchiks wheel of emotions and
Maslows hierarchy of needs. These two theorys have helped me understand why certain clips are filmed in
specific ways. This has helped me understand the physcologicalaspects ofwhy films reach certain audiences
needs.

Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of my project is to create an arsty film on how precious time is and the concept of time itself.
This film will achieve different levels of emotions with the audience will sympathise with. For example:
people interpret time differently. This means they can view this film as either negative or positive which adds
to what i want to achieve. The ideas I have for this film is to film the life of an individual person. This means
I will have a few different characters included but it will be one main character, This will help the audience
gain an emotional connection to the clip. The research I will need to do to conduct this is to research into my
target audience and look at films that have been constructed In the same way. For example: the film called
boyhood is about a life of a child growing up. This would be a good way to research into due to it being a
similar concept that I want to create. This will give me a clear indication on what camera angles would
achieve the best emotions.
Production Techniques (approx. 150 words)
The specialist techniques I need to consider is sound. This is due to the sound effects being a highly
important aspect of my project concept. With out my sound effects i would struggle to create tension and to
give the audience an emotional attachment to my story and main characters. For this is i will need to gather
original audio. I have struggled in the passed to collect original audio due to always gathering sounds that are
disturbed or not clear enough. This means i need to think of creative ways to produce clock ticking and
backing noise to fill in the gaps so it isn't weirdly disorientated noises.
I also need to make sure i use the camera and the positioning of it effectively. This is because a lot of my
shots are close up, but middle positioning. This means i need to make sure the camera is positioned at the
same level in both of the shots to make it more in sync and effective. This means i need to be able to position
the camera safely and securely without error. For this i will probably need assistances so that my shots are
accurate.
What specialist techniques do you need to consider? (e.g. green screen, Steadicam, post-production, sound,
etc)
Does this require any specialist equipment/training/demos?
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How i plan on evaluating my work is by creating production reflections. What i will do with this is
highlight what tools i used and explain what i found difficult and how to improve on it, in the
future. This means I will have to reflect on my work each week to create an accurate conclusion.
Ill also discuss how my skills have developed and what i did well within the production of my
video clip. I will also write in my blog posts what i did within the week of production, which will
explain what I conducted well in my planning or research etc. This will help me conduct my
interviews and research more accurately, due to steadily planning and discussing what i did.
Also, i will do a reflection on my work when it is completed. This will be me analysing my own
work and explaining why i have used certain colours or items.
This will help develop my working practices by giving myself self-criticism. This will help
improve my work in the future and will help me understand what works and what doesn’t. This
means again i will be using my time more effectively which will lead to more effective work.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final self-
reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.

Schedule
WEEK OVERALL PLAN SPECIFIC TASKS
1 -Initial Response
-Production Experiments I will try and edit original noises to a clip. From this, I will learn
how to edit audio and video clips effectively.
This will also give me a basis of ideas, which will help with my planning of work. This will help
make my idea organised even in the early stages.
2 -Product
-Audience Research
-Proposal
-Begin Pre-production The audience research will allow me to do surveys and gather
information, which will help my video clips link to my target audience better.
With the proposal it will help me construct a basic plan for my short film. This means I will look
into techniques, audience and project concept.
With Pre-Production I will begin to plan more in depth. This will be creating storyboards, shot
lists and a story structure. This will give me a better idea of how my video clip will be
structured.
3
-Pre-production
-Filming In pre-production I will undertake risk assesments, cast lists, setting lists and
other information which will allow my production to be safe and organised.
With filming I will begin to film what ive been planning to.
With film will also gather original audio so that I can edit it when it comes to editing.
4 -Filming/Editing I will edit my clips by ordering them the way I have planned. I
will also include my audio, which will need to sync up to the video clip.
This will allow me to experiment with different effects and different concepts of my idea.
5
-Post-production
-Screening/Evaluation In the evaluation I will evaluate my work on how good the
audio is, how well edited it is and I will begin to explain why I have edited shots in certain
ways.
I will also compare my work against other existing short films and explain the similarities and
differences between them.
