4. Why should you be involved?
• Good eating is easier if both do it.
• Exercise-You could motivate her, go for a walk
with her.
• Important to understand doctors tests as you will
be taking joint decisions
• Important information about postnatal(after
delivery) problems, childcare
5. Early weeks: Is she cranky ?
• Sex is usually safe throughout pregnancy
unless she has had spotting, leaking, bleeding
or previous miscarriage…
• Check with doctor if worried
• Irritable , just wants to sleep
• Don’t smoke near her
• Avoid coffee if she has aversion to the smell.
• Offer to cook meals, fix breakfasts
6. Middle months….best time for both
• Best time if you have to travel
• Carry her bags as lifting can give back strain
• Accompany her for doctor visits, otherwise
remember to discuss them.
• Be there when she is having a scan
• You may be able to feel baby movements,
Sometimes not…baby has nothing against you
• She might have odd cravings at odd times, indulge her

8. End months: Tired, irritable, frightened
• Weight may drag her down
• She may be lonely as she is off work
• Talk about what you would both expect
during labor.
• Give her a massage
• Listen to her, don’t try to fix solutions
• Give her a hug
9. Labour
• Keep her company, wipe her face, give her
sips of water, help her change position
• Massage her back and shoulders
• Remind her how to use relaxation and
breathing techniques
• Make it clear to doctor what help you need
and also help her understand what doctor
wants.
10. After baby’s birth
• MCD office - go after you have a baby for the birth
certificate.
• Make sure you have paternity leave.
• Mothers need lot of extra practical and emotional
support to fight “baby blues” or depression.
• Get used to sleepless nights and untidy home.
• Be considerate about sex
• You won’t faint if you change a dirty nappy and
baby vomit is not toxic!
