WORK EXPERIENCE
NATIONAL OILWELL VARCO
Structural Engineer, Houston, TX Nov. 2013-Present
Design customized oil drilling rigs for customers such as Precision Drilling, DLS Argentina Drilling, and Latshaw Drilling. Manage project teams of
engineers, designers and draftsmen throughout development. Issue final approval on all manufacturing drawings and technical documents. Conduct
feasibility studies on new designs for Business Development and Product Line Management. Train junior engineers.
Led team of 5 people to redesign “Ideal Rig” (most successful land rig ever designed at NOV) to capitalize on new market opportunity. Given
extremely aggressive 6-week timeline to design new mast and substructure; successfully managed project on time and on spec. Led
communications with upper management, created project schedule and priorities, assigned tasks, directed bi-weekly meetings and review
sessions. Company sold 20 redesigned rigs, generating over $560MM; new design has now been adopted throughout entire product line.
Initiated and developed design book to ensure API audit criteria are met, maintaining NOV’s right to use API brand/monogram on all Ideal rigs.
Lead communications with plants in Mexicali, MX, Shanghai, China and Galena Park, TX to ensure production consistency worldwide.
Captain, NOV Soccer Team: lead and organize team of 25 co-workers through 4-month competitive season; manage finances.
Structural Engineer, Edmonton, Canada Mar.-Nov. 2013
Designed several cold-climate oil rigs for customers such as Doyon, United Oilfield Services and Tatneft, sold for $160MM collectively. Worked
directly with customers to facilitate contract deviation requests. Supported Nisku manufacturing facility for rig assembling process and design issues
or deviations from manufacturing drawings. Led project update communications with corporate office. Managed customer relationships. Created
design books for completed projects and third party audits to ensure project compliance with NOV’s safety standards.
Mathematically analyzed rig models and designs of company’s first EU rig designed for Polish customer. Calculated optimal beam sizes, steel
grade and welds to minimize manufacturing costs and meet API safety factors.
Engineered mast for Tatneft Slant rig for Russian operations. Performed hand calculations on critical structural connections, guided designers
and draftsmen throughout development. Held review sessions and product improvement meetings with senior engineers.
Land Rigs Engineer, Galena Park Plant, Galena Park, Texas Oct. 2012-Mar. 2013
Supervised disassembling process of Ideal Rig at plant during first-time rig up and final shipping to customers. Reported manufacturing issues and
proposed changes to engineering team to minimize costly rework of products. Implemented procedural improvements based on customer feedback.
Optimized Ideal Rig “Move Plan." Cut down rig relocation time procedures by 33% by creating schedule that maximized use of available
resources at rig sites (cranes, fork-lifts, man-lifts, rig workers) and prioritized activities that could be performed simultaneously. Minimized
unproductive time and restructured handling order of major rig components based on new man-hour approach.
Identified opportunity to modify rig designs after visiting drilling sites and observing how customers were independently modifying our
products. Authored technical reports to build case and sell-through recommended modifications to senior management.
AC MILAN ACADEMY
Head Soccer Coach, Sydney, Australia Mar.-Sept. 2010
Led and organized 3 youth soccer teams. Managed 3 Assistant Coaches. Planned and directed summer camps.
In 6 months, improved Under-11 team performance to ranking of 4th
(of 24 teams), up from 19th
in previous year.
