Hypodermic Needle
• Definition
– The Hypodermic needle method is a model of
communication suggesting an intended message is
directly received/taken in by the viewer and accepted
without question
• Example
When Daniel Gill (14) and Robert Fuller (15)
attempted to kill Ashley Murray because of what
they saw in Scream, believing that they could do it
since it happened in Scream.
Uses and Gratifications Information
• Going on Twitter/Instagram/Tiktok/Snapchat
to read about the news and other things that
I’m interested in. Such as news about ongoing
world-wide issues.
Uses and Gratifications Personal
Identity
• Finding out what certain people are doing and
keeping up.
• Keeping up to date with interests that I follow
such as content creators.
Uses and Gratifications Integration and
Social Interaction
• Keeping up to date and talking to my American
friends daily as well as playing with them online,
it helps close the distance between us (around
3,000 to 4,000 miles away).
• Talking to people online about thing that I care
for and sharing ideas on what would happen with
them.
Uses and Gratifications Entertainment
• Playing video games to entertain myself and
watching content creators create content that
I enjoy.
• Watching YouTube videos some of the content
creator I feel like I could relate to.
Consumer Generated Content
• Example
– Instagram/TikTok/Snapchat/Reddit/YouTube.
• What are the advantages to media producers?
– Let's the producers see what the consumers want and
what they enjoy.
• Why would the audience generate content?
– For a competition or because they wanted to do it as a
thank you for making something that they enjoy.
Psychographics
• Belongers
– A belonger is someone wh does like to stand
out. For example in fashion what is normally
know as normal clothes
• Achievers
– I someone who only cares about showing off
the achievements normally through
materiallistic ways
• Emulators
– These are people who try to be like
achievers but don’t put the effort in or have
the skillset to do said thing, therefore getting
fake/cheap versions of something to try and
show that they have moeny
Psychographics
• Balanced
– These are people who try to
earn as much money as they
can to help other people.
(Michelle Obam, Bill Gates,
Mr Beast)
• Needs Driven
– These are people who buy thing
by impulse even if they don't
have the money.
Psychographics
• Socially Conscious (A)
– These people aim to try and
make change in what they
do and are socially
conscious
• Socially Conscious (B)
– These people only see the worst
things in, things in life.
