2. Hatchery Equipment
The different equipments used in the hatchery
are as follows:
1.Incubator: A machine that creates the perfect
conditions for an egg to incubate and hatch
successfully.
1.Kerosene Incubator
These are small incubators holding a maximum
of 300 eggs. This incubator has a lamp lit inside
the incubator with a chimney. This runs on
kerosene.
4. 2.Hot water incubator
Hot water is circulated through metal pipes fitted
inside the incubators.Hot water heated outside is
pumped through these metal pipes.The incubator
temperature is maintained around 37.7oC.
3.Forced draft incubator
These incubators revolutionised the poultry
industry by enabling supply to large number of
chicks.The temperature is maintained between
99.5 and 100oF using a thermostat mechanism.A
fan is provided at the back of the incubator and
provides the required ventilation.
6. A small incubator will hold less than 1000 eggs.
A large incubator -1000 to 10,000 eggs
Jumbo incubators -10,000 to 30,000 eggs
Walk in incubators -30,000 to 60,000 eggs
Drive in incubators -More than 60,000 eggs.

For the first 18 days of the eggs incubation
period eggs are placed in the setter
b)Hatcher: The part of incubator where the eggs
lay still for the last 3 days the incubation cycle
4.Generator:
used for electricity purpose
3.Air Conditioner: used during summer season
to keep hatchery aired
12. 5.Candlers: used in hatcherfor egg
candling(determining chick embryo,blood and
meat spot along with yolk)
6.Egg trays: used after candling for keeping or
adjusting eggs
7.Fumigation chamber: Room in which eggs
are fumigated(disinfected) after candling
8.Trolley: A wheelable equipment in which
setter trays of eggs are placed

a) sexing turntable
The device is applicable for identifying the growth
rate of the feather, color of the feather and the
anus for DOC
b)Vaccinator: Used to inject vaccine for the
one day old chicks(0.2ml)
10.Chick boxes: sheet or plastic boxes in which
the one day old chicks are placed i.e 100 per
boxes(25 rows and 4 columns)
