2. About
โTo create jobs to assist food entrepreneurs to fulfill their dreams of
a bold and vibrant business community.โ
In order to fulfill our vision we are building a commercial kitchen, a co-working
space, a business development program and culinary skill training. The
Kitchen Incubator is a launch pad for Food Start-ups.
This will give Food Entrepreneurs a foundation for their businessesโ success. In
an environment of support, collaboration/partnership to assist them to take the
next step in their food business.
3. My Story
Why am I doing this BIG project? This is where my story started, when I began my pie
business, besides all the county rules, licenses etc., I was faced with losing my home,
my kitchen through a divorce. (Now, I said it.) There wasnโt a way or I didnโt know
how to support renting a kitchen on my own as my business was just ready to scale
up. I ended up closing the business.
Here I am 5 years later, as I have been talking to other food entrepreneurs, who come
to me and say, โI want to start my food business, tell me how you did it?โ or โI just
started my food business how do I market it?โ or โIโm seeking a kitchen do you know
where I can find one?โ or โWhen will your kitchen be open?โ and other questions.
In 2014, I started speaking, networking and finding the food community in the Bay
area. Itโs now early 2015, getting ready to do a crowdfunding campaign to raise the
money to get this kitchen built. Yes, there is a great demand for commercial kitchens,
as for most startups they are not able to buy the equipment on their own renting
space is where they can scale up their businesses for a lower costโฆ read more
4. My Story continued
After my divorce I found myself homeless.. found that people who are
homeless, or have a challenge in their life all want to do good.. Just many times
they donโt know where to go or find the help they need. A part of this Kitchen
Incubator will have a culinary skill training program to help people get jobs.
Whether they work with the people who are renting kitchen space or out in a
restaurant or a food company they will have the basic skills to get a job.
The people who are homeless, are usually one pay check away without a home
or job or a ex-con who wants to turn their life around. We all could be there one
day and face a humbling experience. Depending on someone to help us. People
want hand up not a hand out. This is something I can do to help to make a
difference and make this world a better place.
