Intelligence can be
strengthened
over time with commitment
& discipline.
But those who need it most
to develop it often realize that too late.
Story of Mr. Craig
 Mr. Craig showed tremendous Potential and a strong
ability to drive results for his company.
 When asked to describe him, his colleagues would
say things like: “he has sharp elbows;” and “he leaves
dead bodies in his path.”
 His approach to execute project was not sustainable
as he was not able to motivate, attract, & retain good
talent.
 His boss commented on Craig’s impatience & his
propensity to lash out at his peers
 Craig did not have the self awareness of his weakness
on emotional intelligence
Introspection
 Do introspection how similar or dissimilar you are to
Mr. Craig
 Often people fail on realizing need to work on their
own emotional intelligence.
 Yet, on numerous time people express that their
collogues need to work on their emotional
intelligence.
 The data showing that emotional maturity is a key
differentiator between star performer and the rest of
the pack is irrefutable.
 Nevertheless, there are some who never embrace the
skill for themselves or who wait until it is too late.
Keep Checking In On Own Emotional
Intelligence
Telltale sign to know emotional intelligence level:
 You are surprised when others are sensitive to your
comments or jokes and you think they are overreacting
 You think being liked at work is overrated.
 You weigh in early with your assertions & defend them
with rigor

Keep Checking In On Own Emotional
Intelligence
 You hold others to the same high expectations you hold
for yourself
 You find others are to blame for most of the issues on
your team
 You find it annoying when others expect you to know
how they feel.

Remedy
 What do you do if you recognized yourself in
this list?

Be aware about gape between intent & impact
Press the pause button
Put yourself in other person’s shoes

Telltale Signs to Know Emotional Intelligence Level

  • 2. Introduction Emotional Intelligence can be strengthened over time with commitment & discipline. But those who need it most to develop it often realize that too late.
  • 3. Story of Mr. Craig  Mr. Craig showed tremendous Potential and a strong ability to drive results for his company.  When asked to describe him, his colleagues would say things like: “he has sharp elbows;” and “he leaves dead bodies in his path.”  His approach to execute project was not sustainable as he was not able to motivate, attract, & retain good talent.  His boss commented on Craig’s impatience & his propensity to lash out at his peers  Craig did not have the self awareness of his weakness on emotional intelligence

Introspection  Do introspection how similar or dissimilar you are to Mr. Craig  Often people fail on realizing need to work on their own emotional intelligence.  Yet, on numerous time people express that their collogues need to work on their emotional intelligence.  The data showing that emotional maturity is a key differentiator between star performer and the rest of the pack is irrefutable.  Nevertheless, there are some who never embrace the skill for themselves or who wait until it is too late.

Keep Checking In On Own Emotional Intelligence Telltale sign to know emotional intelligence level:  You are surprised when others are sensitive to your comments or jokes and you think they are overreacting  You think being liked at work is overrated.  You weigh in early with your assertions & defend them with rigor 
  • 6. Keep Checking In On Own Emotional Intelligence  You hold others to the same high expectations you hold for yourself  You find others are to blame for most of the issues on your team  You find it annoying when others expect you to know how they feel. 
