2. MY IDEAS
My idea for the front cover is to try and keep it very versatile because of how big the
age gap is for the target audience, I show that through my flat plan ideas as the
background is very vibrant yet a little bit mature plus the add ons I will add in
photoshop like interviews with celebrities, images, articles about food etc which will
attract more attention from the different ages. I will have a catchy title that is the
main part of the front page that links this to the brief, and the background photo will
be a picture of a location or something more summery to show/ represent journeys.
My original idea for my front page will be slightly different from the final product as I
have decided it is better to add more clutter so it truly fits the brief of a front page
and having it have lots of clutter allows me to fit into all ages within the age gap.
With the layout of the front page magazine, I decided to keep the background
minimalistic and have the main image in the middle, with the add ons I had to
resolve the issue and add them to the side, I didn’t want it to take away from the
main image and ruin the aim of the front page, so I will move the image of the
camera to be in the middle so it still gives the look of a front page magazine.
I think my ideas are a good fit for the clients and their needs because the
client is wanting to create an alliance with the people within the ages of 16-
25, and make them aware of their products and services. In my ideas, I do a
good job of showing the target audience that Canon is a good and
trustworthy business, I do that by using aspirational photos and using the
correct language. With the theme of ‘Journeys’ I have fit the theme of
Journeys as I have multiple photos that show the Journey of water and shows
water in different location as well as driving and transportation photos, both
of these let me fit into the theme as the brief also says to ideally go outside
the box and the theme of water is creative and will attract the target audience
more as well.
3. IDEAS PT.2
My idea for the advertorial is to include images of the camera
and even though it is a article I would still have a few images
because of how young the age gap is, this way they would
still get information they need plus photos that show what
the camera can do. I will include photos of the camera and
will point out the features and what it can do. In the text I
will be comparing Canon as a brand to other brands and how
they are beginner friendly and a good investment to make, I
will also be talking about Journeys and the photos I will show
will be of different locations to link back to the brief. With the
layout I went back and forth on how to lay it out especially
because I wanted more photos in it, and I decided that it was
bets to do a big chunk of text and a photo next to it talking
about the camera this allows the audience to go back and
forth and have a better view on whet the camera can do. The
font I will use in this advertorial is Seif Sans as I believe it is
visually better than the other fonts and will catch the eye.
The USP to my idea is that I will adhere the advertorial and
front page to more of the beginners, I am taking the
advertorial route because I want to talk more about brief and
comparing Canon to other camera brands, this allows me to
connect more and make the target audience feel more secure
and have more of an idea of the camera. Compared to
others, the target audience might also then feel like Canon is
a more loyal and reliable brand to go for, creating an alliance
amongst the target audience. The target audience will
definitely feel like the front page and especially the
advertorial is personal to them, and to help that I will use
personal words. I think this will be a successful campaign
because I have targeted towards the correct audience using
techniques and used problem solving skills and thought
about things like personal words and the pros and cons of
every decision.
4. The target audience for this project are:
- People who are within the age of 15-
25
- Has photography as a hobby or as a
career
- Social grade of an E or D
- Their psychographics being an
explorer, with individuality and
determination.
TARGET AUDIENCE Research
The research that I have done to find out the target audience for this project is ;
surveys, focus group and audience profiling.
The codes and conventions I
was going to go with for this
campaign was the look of the
front page a magazine, at first I
wanted something modern and
minimalistic but I wanted to fit
the look of the front page
magazine because of how
young the age gap is, not all
would be interested in the
modern look so I decided to
add more add ons etc like a
classic front page
5. PRODUCTS
My chosen products of an advertorial and a front page cover is good for this project, as with an advertorial I can be more
personal and give more information about the camera and the theme of Journeys so it fits into the target audience more and it
will create an allegiance between them and Canon so they know that Canon is a trustworthy and reliable business with good
services, with a front page cover I can adhere to all ages of the age group with the little add on and the articles I can add onto the
front while keeping the background eye catching and vibrant, with the magazine I can attract all age groups and have information
about the camera on front so it will peak their interest and will seem more personal to them if it has their other interests within
and on the front cover too.
The things I have learnt from analysing existing
products is that any slight change within a
product can change the target audience and
receive a different reaction, Canon has many
photos in the background that are aspirational,
they are usually photos of sunsets or beaches
with vibrant colours. With the front page
magazine designs it is very cluttered but it still
adheres to the target audience even more,
especially because of young the target audience
for this project is, it will make it even better to
have many different hobbies and interests on
the front page too.
6. Instead of presenting my pitch to a group in person, I
decided that it was best for me to put the pitch into a video
and upload it to YouTube, and then upload the video to
google forms, this is because it was hard to schedule a pitch
as every one had different schedules, this allows them to
give their feedback in their own time and to think about their
feedback more rather than rush it. With my feedback I
believe that I put too much information in my pitch, this
made my text smaller and harder to read for others, I know
next time to keep the main points so it will be easier for
them to understand and read.
