1 Course title and credit points
The course is titled Swedish for International
Students 1/Svenska för internationella studenter 1
and awards 7,5 ECTS credits. One credit point

3 Objectives
The Swedish language at beginners’ level.
Social and cultural information.
4 Content
Spoken communication and texts at an every-day
level. Common phrases and vocabulary to improve
the ability to communicate and interact in Swedish
society.
Pronunciation is emphasized in this first course.
5 Aims and learning outcomes
On completion of the course the student will be able
to:
•pronounce simple words and phrases
•speak simple phrases and answer questions, using
a basic vocabulary including academic terminology
•greet and introduce oneself
•read and understand simple information such as
signs
•shop and order at a café or restaurant
•fill in a simple form
•have a basic knowledge of grammar as pronouns,
verbs in present, past and future tense, nouns in
singular and plural, adjectives, word order
•construct simple phrases in past and future tense
•make a descripition of an item

6 Generic skills
The following generic skills are trained in the
course:
•Speaking, listening and reading the Swedish
language at beginners’ level according to the
Common European Framework of Reference for
languages.
7 Learning and teaching
Oral training, focusing on simple every day phrases
and pronunciation. The oral training is completed
by text -and grammar studies to prepare for more
advanced studies.
All texts are available as web sound files
The teaching language is English.
