Maria G. Ramos has extensive volunteer experience working with nonprofit organizations helping her local community in San Diego, California. She has held leadership roles with Community Housing Works, Las Serenas Learning Center, and Palavra Tree Inc. Ramos was also actively involved in several extracurricular clubs and activities in high school focused on promoting diversity, education, and helping disadvantaged groups. These include M.E.Ch.A, Invisible Children, Our Village, The Power of One, and Adelante Mujeres. Her goal through these activities was to encourage her peers and motivate positive change.

Dealt with the feedback about the Community Housing Works learning centers.
Participated in meetings/ events with the board and the people winin the community
housing works family. In charge of the approval of the ideas and movements within the
non-profit organazation.

Helped children with homework and planned activities for the children. Helped with
errands, created flyers and posters to let the residents aware of any events or meetings
within the complex.

A treatment program that helps teenagers deal with alcohol and drug addictions.I was a
peer to peer consulter, or facilitator. I was a tool in order to see their best of interest in
life.
*YWLA (Young Workers Leadership Academy)

Annual 3 day training program teen job awareness. Where I consumed most information
about teen safety and the rules that apply. Jobs and safety rules and rights for all race and
color. I first enrolled with a group and continued as a mentor for 3 yrs., and 2 yrs. as a
sponsor.

2. *M.E.Ch.A (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanos de Aztlan)

A member for 3 yrs and Club President my Senior year. My goal was to stress on the
importance of education and culture the awareness of the Hispanic and Latino Heritage. I
wanted to have a change within my peers and motivated diversity to participate. I
encourage my peers to make college a priority in their lives in order to pursue a better
quality of life.
*VATA (Visual Arts & Technology Academy)

A creativity test program that enlarge my skills within art and technology. A program that
introduced me to stop motion, Photoshop and paint.
*Invisible Children

I was first introduced with the program in my last program VATA. My peers and I
participated with fundraising and selling objects in order to help the children of Northern
Uganda. In order to make them free and to end their war. My school site was uncharged
of helping build their school, education. More people know about now than when I was

*Our Village

Associated club with Human Relations. Where teenagers from different heritages and
cultural backgrounds tried to exceed and develop a diverse school campus. Our main goal
as a club was to act as a family and have a friendship in which would show the greatness
achieved within. To show hate and discrimination had to disappear in the barriers of
culture differences in order for diversity to be at peace.
*The Power of One

A club that was associated with a Human Psychology course. It involved students to be
motivated and encourage helping within a time period. In order to get motivated we
would help within our school and community. Our saying was “Pass it Forward” an
inspiration from the film “Pay it Forward” to help those around us and to help it spread.

The purpose with this club was to create a fun environment with our peers with disability
disorders as equal. Motivating them and encouraging into different friend circles were
they felt cared for and most important not different much.

A Hispanic and Latino supporting club in which girls are help to boost their self-esteem
and capacity to make a difference. A unity in which creating a change within ourselves
and make a difference.
