Maritime Security Team Leader – Maritime security services
The Maritime Security Team Leader is to provide maritime security advice to the Master, and manage the
embarked Maritime Security Team (MST) in order to ensure robust and effective security assurance and
appropriate responses to all maritime threats and incidents. He is responsible for the daily management,
operational training, conduct, discipline and welfare of the Maritime security team members. He is also
responsible for the planning, preparation and execution of team operations in accordance with Ambrey SOPs.

2. The role will entail responsibility as follows:
 Daily management, operational training, discipline and welfare of team Members whilst on transits.
Manage the Maritime Security Team - maintain awareness and vigilance of security watches,
equipment and personnel issues. Maintain team and crew morale and provide leadership throughout
the task.
 Identify client vessel threat vulnerabilities to piracy and robbery at sea and advise on improvement
recommendations for Ship Protection Measures (SPM),by conducting an on board anti-piracy ship
security assessment (SSA) prior to departure and subsequent entry in to the designated High Risk
Area (HRA) and Voluntary Reporting Area (VRA).
 Coordinate the construction of SPM with issued stores to improvise anti-piracy deterrent and
boarding prevention measures with approval from the Master.
 Monitor and report suspicious activities to Ambrey Operations, Dryad & UKMTO as per Ambrey
SOPs.
 Anticipate, identify and assess the maritime threat to the client vessel whilst in transit to; Deter,
Delay and ultimately deny a hostile boarding of the vessel.
 Manage post incident procedures inclusive of immediate support to the Master and crew and incident
reporting to UKMTO and Ambrey HO as per Ambrey SOPs.
 Thorough knowledge of the Piracy Threat in the Designated HRA/VRA the preferred Modus
Operandi of Pirate Action Groups with an understanding of the historical presence and real time
incidents with in the HRA/VRA. Understanding geographical and pirate profiles for the HRA/VRA
and designated areas of High Risk.
 Prepare and deliver anti-piracy security briefings and emergency response training rehearsals to the
MST, Master and crew prior to departure and subsequent entry in to the designated High Risk Area
(HRA/VRA)
 Assist the Master in assessing threats in the event of a suspect approach; hostile boarding or
unlawful seizure or detention of the vesselby pirates. Coordinate a security response to maritime
threats ensuring the Master, MST understand The Rules for The Use of force the escalation of force
and the individual’s inherent right to self-defense.
 Ensure all required reports and paperwork are completed and submitted as required as per Ambrey
SOPs.
 Leadership, to include the command, motivation and maintenance of cohesion of the team to provide
excellence of security provision in line with the VesselMaster and Ambrey’s intent.
 Maintain all issued weapons, equipment and clothing to highest standards possible.
 Coordination and liaison with agents,Ambrey Operations team, vessel agents and Masters.
 Management of transits in accordance with Maritime legislation, e.g. ISPS Code, SOLAS,UNCLOS
Current BMP and situational awareness of the environment. Ambrey SOPs reporting procedures,
Safe Weapon Handling with all issued weapons in accordance with Ambrey SOPs.
 Monitoring, maintaining, reporting and training (where appropriate) of operational standards of the
Maritime Security Operators as per Ambrey SOPs.
 Security quality assurance through delivery and training of Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).
 Maintain ability to teach/mentor other crew members and local foreign nationals, where necessary,
in relevant skills and techniques.
 To perform any other tasks and duties as directed by Ambrey SMT.
3. The following skills and experience are essential for this role:
 An experienced Maritime Security Professional with significant experience of maritime security
operations, to include instructional ability to train the team members in SOPs,safe weapon handling,
maritime specific drills terminology and tactical situation appreciation and awareness.
 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for Safe Weapon handling and skill at arms experience on a
variety of weapon systems.
 Strong Leadership skills, to include the command, motivation and maintenance of cohesion of the
team in order to provide high quality security services.
 Excellent communication skills / good command of English language, being able to express himself
verbally and in written form to a multi-national audience.
 Even and balanced temperament and be level headed at all times with a focus on exemplary customer
service at all times.
 Be able to act in a calm and confident manner, during times of stress.
 Strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to handle multiple tasks. High level of accuracy
required.
 Administration skills, to include the preparation of Ambrey reports, returns, risk assessments and
equipment husbandry.
o Possess the mandatory qualifications for deployment with Ambrey e.g. STCW, MSO 8269
C&GLevel 3, FPOSi (National equivalent or higher), CDC,clean CRB/National equivalent
and relevant Team Leader assessments/ qualifications (as detailed in SOP 4.1)
The following skills and experience are desirable for this role:
 Maritime security experience with Ambrey Risk.
 1 years’ experience as a Team Leader in the Maritime Security Industry.
 Desirable to have been a former SNCO/WO in the British Army/Air Force or Royal Marines/Navy
OR National Military equivalent.
 Discharged from the military within the last 10 years.
 Recent operational experience
Terms and Conditions:
ï‚· Operational Deployment Contract (Op Order) to be supplied by Ambrey management. The Op Order
will specify the deployment period and pay rates for that time period. To allow for ETA changes,the
Op Order start and end date will be +/- 10days. The pay rates will be stipulated in the Op Order.
