Hello everyone, I’m Martin - founder of the Upstart Academy. We’re all about helping students build digital skills.
There are three main things I’d like to talk about today:
i)
ii)
iii)
Have some time for questions at the end
Before I get into all that, I should tell you a bit more about us.
So we’re an experiential learning platform, which means we have a focus on teaching our students how to apply their skills in a practical environment.
We do this by connecting our students to work on practical projects with businesses. We define the projects that our students complete and support them along the way.
These projects are delivered entirely remotely and online, with students connecting via video conferencing and project management software.
This concept was incubated during the EduGrowth accelerator program, which CSU was a founding partner of.
Our vision was to make practical experience more accessible for students to assist with the transition from study to work.
Let’s take a step back for a little bit.
We know that the workplace is evolving at an increasingly rapid pace. This is especially true in the digital space where we focus. For those students interested in digital marketing, UX design or web development as careers - the practical skill they need are changing all the time.
This is change hard for Universities to keep up with.
That’s where we can help out.
Our platform specifically focuses on these practical skills and teaches them in the best way by giving students hands on experience.
We’re able to be adaptive to the changing dynamics of the workforce and see ourselves as a compliment to tertiary education.
Alright, so now I’d like to move on to discussing how we can help students in these key areas.
To do this, I’d like to show you in more specific detail how our service works.
The first step for students that join our platform is to complete some practical online learning based on their area of interest. This prepares them for the projects.
Next, students can apply for projects in our marketplace. We take teams of students for each projects (usually between 3-5 members) and launch projects in set time periods to cater for students timetables.
To be released in 2018
This curriculum is driven by demand from businesses - we only create projects that are in need.
To outline the benefits for students I’d like to talk about one in more detail, Ameya.
Based in Melbourne, worked for DigiGround in Sydney.
Let’s look at his project.
Finally, I’d like to discuss how our service can assist Universities build closer ties with local businesses.
