4. ITS ALL ABOUT INTERVIEWS!
THE SKYPE INTERVIEW
www.cvspecialist.org.uk
Skype is quickly becoming the number one resource for
interview selection. Your first interview may be telephone
or skype based.
This helps recruiter’s sift out time-wasters and no hopers.
If they use a video link they may test your presentation as
well as your communication and organisation skills so do
look your best when you know you are having a skype
interview.
Remember and have a copy of your CV in front of you to
refer to and a pen and paper handy so you can make notes.
Switch off
distractions. Ensure
the room is quiet
and there is no
background noise.
If you have kids ask
someone to help
keep them quiet and
out of sight whilst
you are on the
phone.
5. ITS ALL ABOUT INTERVIEWS!
THE INFORMAL INTERVIEW
www.cvspecialist.org.uk
Remember there are always
exceptions to the rule.
Always look smart for
interview.
1. Even if you attending an informal interview you should almost
always dress up for it.
2. Companies like to think that you are smartly dressed even when
you are being informal. They like to think you will live up to
their standards and company brand.
If you do not, and the recruiter, Director or CEO has arranged to
take you to lunch or dinner, as sometimes is the case, then this
could be detrimental.
6. ITS ALL ABOUT INTERVIEWS!
THE ONE TO ONE INTERVIEW
1. At a one to one interview you may be asked to fill out
some forms, sometimes this is done at reception at
others in the office. Did you remember to take a pen
and notepad with you as well as a copy of your CV?
2. Do not encroach the recruiter’s personal space.
3. Ask open ended questions.
4. Listen and if a question is not clear – ask to clarify – it
shows good communication.
5. If you are given coffee ensure it is not in a place where
you are likely to knock it over.
6. Remember, recruiters are people too and can
sometimes have off days.
7. Praise the company and not the recruiter otherwise
they may not be able to live up to what they have said
and dismiss you because of it.

7. ITS ALL ABOUT INTERVIEWS!
THE TEST INTERVIEW
1. Although the majority of test interviews may be done
individually, you may be tested alongside one or even a few
others. Occasionally this may cover team-building skills, but
more often than not group tests are done in front of individual
computers or work-stations.
2. Interviewers do not always tell you if you will be tested
alongside others; so be prepared.
3. Remember to take any tools you may need like a
pen, pencil, note-paid, this will help you come
across as well organized.
4. Test interviews can be part of another interview
or as an interview on its own.

8. ITS ALL ABOUT INTERVIEWS!
THE PRESENTATION INTERVIEW
1. For some sales positions, finance and a few others
you may be asked to deliver a Presentation
at interview within a few minutes notice.
2. This is to help evaluate how you think on your feet
and how you would “fit in” with the company culture
should you have to fill the shoes of someone else without warning.
3. For some other positions you may be asked in advance to deliver a
PowerPoint or other Presentation at interview. Some companies will give
you a topic to base it on. This will help them assess your organization
abilities; your skills in researching and resourcing and your skills in
communication.
4. If you are unsure whether or not they would like a PowerPoint
Presentation and if so, what to base it on, you can always call them and
ask. Good communication is the key to many roles.

9. ITS ALL ABOUT INTERVIEWS!
THE PANEL INTERVIEW
1. For some positions, you may be asked to attend a
Panel Interview.
2. This is not only so each of them can evaluate your skills but, it
also helps them assess how you speak to, and manage in front of
a group of strangers. Are you calm and positive, or all over the
place?
3. How do you react? Can you acknowledge all of them or do you
focus on one person in particular?
4. Do you come across as a professional who knows what he is
talking about?
