Commitment and energy from colleagues working together can transform an organization through a shared vision. Transformational leadership focuses on developing organizational capacity for innovation rather than direct control, while servant leadership prioritizes serving and empowering followers. Both transformational and servant leadership styles offer beneficial frameworks for managing educational environments through strong relationships, culture, and empowering faculty in the decision-making process.
2. Commitment and energy could
transform an organization by
persuading colleagues to work
together to achieve a vision.
3. • Focuses on developing the organization’s
capacity to innovate, rather than focusing
specifically on direct coordination, control and
supervision of curriculum and instruction.
• It is a process of building commitment to
organizational objective and then empowering
followers to accomplish the objective (Yukl’s
view)
4. • The servant leader is servant first.
• It begins with the natural feeling that one
wants to serve, to serve first.
• Servant leadership is demonstrated by
empowering and developing people; by
expressing humility, authenticity,
interpersonal acceptance and stewardship; and
by providing direction.
5. Transformational
leadership
Servant
leadership
• Focus on the organization
• Concerned with the
performance of followers
and developing followers in
fullest potential
• Focus on individuals
• Provide vision, gain
credibility and trust
from followers to
support the vision and
goals of the
organization
6. • Transformational and servant leadership offer
frameworks that may prove beneficial in
managing and leading our educational
environment during the changing times.
7. • Hamilton Academy (2000) a school with low
enrolment, a transient student population and a week
administration with little potential support.
• The principal use the transformational leadership
model and attempt to create strong relationship and a
supportive culture for teachers, students and parents.
• The approach coincided with an increase in good
relationship with parents and students.
• The use of transformational leadership was highly
effective in changing the culture inside and outside of
the school.
8. Implications
• A leader practicing servant leadership is only as strong
as faculty. (Brown, 2009)
• These input is important because the staff feels more
of a part of the decision making process and empowers
them considerably.
9. Implications for school leaders
• This type of leadership will empower the teachers and
allow faculty the feeling that they should do more both
in an instructional and management way.
• Servant leadership will allow him and other school
leaders to take full advantage of the power in numbers
that a school’s staff has.
