BPM in the Era of Fast Data and
Unprecedented Change
2
The New Challenge
Over the last decade, the rise of smart devices and mobility has blurred the
frontiers of our physical and digital worlds. Developments have exceeded
all expectations and brought on an era of unprecedented change and data
availability:
In our personal lives, we can track every step taken and calorie burned;
estimate the number of minutes needed for our commute each day; find the
safest/fastest/cheapest route between point A and B at any moment; and
monitor our energy consumption across its various sources. All this data, and
the ability to easily consume it, makes our personal lives easier to manage
and plan.
On the enterprise side, we have big data, which has broken the three-
decades-long dominion of relational databases. While it is relatively easy for
organizations to collect and analyze huge volumes of complex information,
any insights gained are usually based on what has already happened.
Accessing the massive amounts of complex data and acting on what’s
happening right now is the challenge for this new era.
3
Fast Data puts your big data to work.
Fast Data is the processing of big data in real time, enabling instant
awareness and instant action. This ability gives an enterprise the power
to shape the future.
Instant awareness and action requires seamless integration of people,
processes, devices, social and mobile communications, big data
sources, APIs, and systems (on premise and in the cloud) to ensure
everyone and everything has access to the same, accurate and
appropriate information. Once you have the right information and
understand it*, you need to act.
But how can you coordinate all the people and elements throughout
your organization to act quickly and correctly?
*TIBCO’s Fast Data Platform
provides the ability to be first
to insight and first to action
by making massive amounts
of information consumable
and understandable so it can
provide value for the business,
employees, partners, and
systems.

Digitalization

noun
1 The process of using disruptive technologies to
innovate and increase business success.
2	The means to reinvent business value, open new
economies, expand into new markets, and provide new
levels of customer satisfaction.
Digitization
dig·i·ti·za·tion /¸dijitə’zāSHən/
noun
1 The process of converting data to digital for use in a
computer.
Another term for automation.
Digitalize! Don’t just automate.
To stay competitive by using all the available
information to make optimal decisions and act
fast—as well as to proactively prepare for rapid
business change and innovation—you must do
more than just automate what you have always
been doing. You must “digitalize” to take advantage
of new technologies, trends, and data sources.
Digitalization is the third age of business process
management (BPM), driven by the need to use BPM
to differentiate and accommodate rapid change.
TIBCO ActiveMatrix®
BPM enables digitalization by
providing flexible processes that can react to the
right business events in real time. Rather than follow
a prescriptive, predesigned path, your business
processes can be proactively designed to change
on-the-fly. Both people and systems can compose
the best possible process for the situation and the
information at hand.
First, two requirements:
To learn more about business
digitalization and its effects
read TIBCO’s ebook:
ActiveMatrix BPM: Digitalize!
Don’t Just Automate.
5
First requirement, business processes need to conform to
business requirements, not to BPM software.
In the past, a business solution was constrained by the BPM software it was built-on rather than designed directly to
address actual business requirements. The days when business requirements took a backseat to software capabilities are
over. Today, to differentiate using your processes, you cannot be constrained. Processes, and solutions based on them,
must be flexible enough to cover all business and technical needs.
To ensure that process-based solutions and apps are built to conform to business needs and requirements—and not
limited by how the platform functions—ActiveMatrix BPM provides several capabilities:
• A range of flexible user interface
and API options
The user interface is designed for
both the web and mobile devices
and can also be embedded in your
own custom or hybrid client.
• Multiple process types
Three distinct process types, not
just long-lived process flows,
accommodate all types of processes
and business requirements.
• Dynamic work delivery
The system can deliver work to
groups, roles, positions, individuals,
or lists based on business data, a
required skill, or authorization level.
• Dynamic and event-driven
processes
Processes react to business
conditions at runtime. The exact
path followed is based on business
data or real-time events.
• Intelligent work and resource
management
With a combination of organizational
transparency and flexibility, dynamic
calendars, model-driven process
patterns, diverse work delivery
methods, skills-based routing, and
actionable business intelligence,
your workforce’s full potential is
unleashed.
The expanded role of the business process platform will render business processes, and the solutions based on them,
as mission critical to the enterprise. A mission-critical status brings a new set of technical requirements and standards,
which is the second requirement
6
Second requirement, business processes need to be business friendly with enterprise strength.
In the new era, your core
business process solutions
must meet the same stringent
security, performance,
reliability, scalability, and
availability requirements as
any other mission-critical
application.
ActiveMatrix BPM was
conceived and designed
to be business friendly
with enterprise strength.
It intuitively handles all
organizational needs and
reduces dependency on IT
while meeting the demanding
technical standards of
mission-critical applications.
It handles departmental
processes as easily as
enterprise mission-critical
processes and spans
human workflows to case
management. It is the single
business process platform
for all enterprise business
process needs.
The new ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1
release introduces several
new features for digitalization.
Flexible processes can:
•  Identify and react to the
right business events.
• Access and present
information in real time and
in a consumable fashion.
• Quickly act on what is
happening right now.
Rather than following a
predesigned or prescribed
path, ActiveMatrix BPM
business processes can be
proactively designed to
change. Here’s how:
7
How to compose your processes for proactive change:
Digitalization requires BPM to move
beyond just automating human efforts
and replacing paper-based solutions
to supporting better human thinking
and decision-making. ActiveMatrix
BPM facilitates valuable business
insights and actions by presenting
your Fast Data in a consumable
fashion at the right decision-making
points. Business processes will no
longer be limited to transactions or
cases; they will be situational and
interaction-based.
ActiveMatrix BPM provides flexible
processes that react to the right
business events in real time. They
are processes that can be designed
or adapted on-the-fly by both
people and systems. This capability
is achieved by combining flexible
processes with ad-hoc activities,
independent work routing and
distribution, and event-driven
processes. This combination provides
solutions that can truly digitalize your
business, not just automate it.
ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 has introduced
capabilities in three areas that allow
people and systems to compose and
arrange the best possible process
on-the-fly for the situation and
information at hand:
• Enhanced Case Management
• Expanded BPM Analytics
• Ease of Consumption and Use
8
Enhanced Case Management Capabilities
Several styles of case management can be mixed and matched to devise a
solution that fits your business requirements. Some styles are data-centric,
others are document-, process-, or people-centric. With ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1,
new features and capabilities enhance each of these case management styles.
Case States and Actions
Data-centric case management solutions make business objects (for example,
a claim, policy, and/or policy holder) independent of running processes and
the central focus of the solution, as opposed to long-lived process instances.
Collections of small processes are used to interact with long-lived business
objects.
Case states and actions provide agility and context to data-centric case
management. One example:
John, a junior claims handler, has been assigned claim number 139, which is in the processing
state, providing context. With ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1, John can see a list of valid actions that
are available to him for this particular claim. If John changes roles, or if the case changes
states, the case actions are reconfigured, and the list of John’s available actions are
automatically updated in real time, providing agility.
Available actions for different states and privileges are easily configured and
changed by business users without IT intervention.
9
Ad Hoc Activities
The “happy path” for processing a case (for example, an
insurance claim or a fraud investigation) is almost always
known ahead of time and can be easily expressed as a model.
Complexity comes in when activities are triggered by user
choices, or when there are several possibilities for when and how
choices are made and who makes them. It is impossible to model
every possible combination of activity, state, and data value.
To meet the challenge, ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 introduces Ad Hoc
Activities for case management flexibility without complexity and
without introducing fragility.
Ad Hoc Activities are not part of the standard process flow and
are only activated when a precondition is met. Preconditions can
be based on:
• Case state values
°° Case is in the processing (or other) state
°° Only after the pay claim (or other) activity is completed
• Business data values
°° Claim is over $10,000 (or other value)
• User privileges
°° Must be a senior customer service representative (or other
role or skill)
Tasks can be activated manually, or automatically when either the
precondition is met or an external event is received. This flexibility
gives people (and systems) the ability to adjust processes on-the-
fly as they see fit for the current situation, while still being bound
by business rules and guidelines.
10
Global and Case Data Repository
ActiveMatrix BPM 3.0 introduced a global data repository that is modeled, then
created and administered by ActiveMatrix BPM. This allows a business object,
such as a claim, customer, or policy (rather than a process), to be the central
focus. Business objects have a completely separate lifecycle from the processes
that interact with them and are stored separately from ActiveMatrix BPM
transactional data.
ActiveMatrix BPM global and case data:
• Supports easy reporting by avoiding data types that are only readable
through programming (BLOBs and CLOBs)
• Provides easy discoverability because it can contain many searchable attributes
• Has its own audited history
• Can be externally accessed using a CRUD or search API
• Automatically generates CRUD or search UI components for out-of-the-box
clients or for embedding in custom and hybrid clients
Case Folders and Document Operations
Document-centric case management solutions have documents or other
media associated with the case or business objects that need to be stored and
accessed while a particular case is being worked on.
ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 extends global and case data with document folders for
storage and access to case related documents. It also introduces a series of
document operation activities for process models for linking, unlinking, moving,
searching, and deleting documents within a case or between cases.
Case folders and document operations can be combined with case states
and actions or ad hoc tasks to allow organizations to leverage their existing
enterprise content management system (ECMS) investments. The combination
provides a highly agile and dynamic solution that can be integrated with an
organization’s data, people, processes, systems, APIs, and other entities.
11
Expanded BPM Analytics Capabilities
Analytics can no longer be an afterthought. To stay competitive in this era of
unprecedented change and Fast Data, you need contextual real-time reporting
and insights, as well as the ability to immediately act upon them.
A range of audiences with different needs interact with business processes and
require different types of analyses: pixel perfect reporting, dashboards, ad hoc
analysis, predictive analytics.
All the analytical choices has led to confusion about what the right solution is,
as well as unanswered business requirements; However, it is easy to determine
the best solution by examining audience needs.
Is your audience looking for answers to questions they already know?
Then pixel perfect or dashboard reporting is the right solution for them.
Is your audience looking to uncover insights, provide predictive views or simulations,
or explore the data to discover questions they didn’t even know they had?
Then business intelligence for ad-hoc analysis and predictive analytics is the
right solution for them.
Many enterprise mission-critical processes will require a bit of all types of
analyses to satisfy all audiences.

12
Pixel Perfect Reporting and Dashboards
To expand BPM Analytics, ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1
introduces JasperReports®
for ActiveMatrix®
BPM,
which provides embedded self-service reporting
within the business process platform. Jaspersoft
was recently acquired by TIBCO, and this is the first
TIBCO product to feature its embedded enterprise
reporting capabilities.
A number of interactive, extendable, and adaptable
BPM pixel perfect reports and dashboards are
now provided out-of-the-box with ActiveMatrix
BPM. The major benefit of this union comes from
the business user’s ability to define and manage
their own reports and dashboards without IT
intervention. JasperReports®
for ActiveMatrix®
BPM
provides overlays to abstract away the complexities
of the underlying data so information can be
surfaced to the business user in a meaningful and
business contextual way.
JasperReports can use ActiveMatrix BPM global,
case, and process execution data, which allows
reporting on workload, process, and business
performance. These reports and dashboards
can also be enhanced with business data from
enterprise systems of record. The out-of-the-box
reporting dashboard is interactive and allows users
to change live processes or cases in real time.
13
Ad Hoc and Predictive Analytics
Expanded BPM analytics helps you know the status of your business at all
times. But you also need the ability to quickly find and take action on and find
opportunities and risks in time to affect their outcomes.
Do I have a potential capacity problem? Is there a skills gap for projected
work? Do I need to re-prioritize work? Reallocate resources within my team
(permanently or temporarily)?
TIBCO ActiveMatrix®
BPM Spotfire®
gives you the ease and flexibility to slice,
dice, drag-and-drop, and drill-down into work, process, and resource details
so you can find the information you need and take immediate, effective action
directly from the dashboard. The business is able to change how the core
business process operates to align it with current resources, capacity, load, and
changing business goals—again, directly from the analytics dashboards—and
without any IT intervention.
Combining Human Insight with Machine Intelligence provides:
• Intelligent adjusting of work distribution
• Dynamic and automatic work prioritization
• Service level agreement management
• Pattern discovery (to understand the past)
• Real-time work monitoring
°° FTE estimates
°° Predicted time to completion
°° Available resources and skills
• Forecasting of as-is scenarios
• Priority simulations
• As-is and what-if scenario comparison forecasts
14
Ease of Use and Consumption Capabilities
Ease of use and consumption applies to both IT and business users. The new self-service reporting and enhanced case management capabilities described above
are for the business user; the following capabilities are for IT users.
BPM UI and Forms Designers:
Introducing Live Development
With ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1, new capabilities
have been added to allow live iterative forms
development without needing rebuild or redeploy
process packages. Live development lets the
user skip directly from design to test without the
complete deployment cycle. The designer can
immediately test all changes in real time directly from
the design environment, or through a new feature in
the ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 out-of-the-box client.
TIBCO iProcess Users and Developers:
iProcess to ActiveMatrix BPM Model Conversion
Automated tooling has been added to the design
time of ActiveMatrix BPM for converting TIBCO
iProcess®
models to ActiveMatrix BPM models.
Though this cannot address the wider external
ecosystem that typically surrounds and interacts
with iProcess solutions, it does convert all of the
like-for-like functionality of TIBCO iProcess to
TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM modeling notation and
syntax. This significantly accelerates the conversion
and transformation of legacy processes on
iProcess to our flagship business process platform,
ActiveMatrix BPM.
BPM Developers and Designers:
Developer Installations
Developer installations is the first phase of a new
lightweight installation specifically for process
designers and developers. It reduces the overall
footprint of the platform installation, as well as
many of the underlying infrastructure requirements,
so it is easier to install and run on local commodity
desktop and laptop hardware. Some of these
changes limit the native availability and scalability
of ActiveMatrix BPM, so it is not recommended for
mission-critical production use.
15
Meet the challenge with
people, experimentation, and
innovation.
ActiveMatrix BPM provides flexible, change on-the-
fly processes needed to deliver instant action—but
of course another key ingredient is needed: people.
How will your people find the best course of action,
devise the best processes? By experimenting,
observing, and experimenting again. TIBCO
ActiveMatrix BPM helps here, too, by alleviating
the burden on IT and freeing business users to
apply their ideas directly, then analyze and quickly
iterate use-case specific solutions. ActiveMatrix
BPM supports experimentation, which leads to
innovation, differentiation, and competitiveness—
even (and especially) in the era of Fast Data and
unprecedented change.

bpm3.1-era-fast-data-04

  • 1. 1 BPM in the Era of Fast Data and Unprecedented Change
  • 2. 2 The New Challenge Over the last decade, the rise of smart devices and mobility has blurred the frontiers of our physical and digital worlds. Developments have exceeded all expectations and brought on an era of unprecedented change and data availability: In our personal lives, we can track every step taken and calorie burned; estimate the number of minutes needed for our commute each day; find the safest/fastest/cheapest route between point A and B at any moment; and monitor our energy consumption across its various sources. All this data, and the ability to easily consume it, makes our personal lives easier to manage and plan. On the enterprise side, we have big data, which has broken the three- decades-long dominion of relational databases. While it is relatively easy for organizations to collect and analyze huge volumes of complex information, any insights gained are usually based on what has already happened. Accessing the massive amounts of complex data and acting on what’s happening right now is the challenge for this new era.
  • 3. 3 Fast Data puts your big data to work. Fast Data is the processing of big data in real time, enabling instant awareness and instant action. This ability gives an enterprise the power to shape the future. Instant awareness and action requires seamless integration of people, processes, devices, social and mobile communications, big data sources, APIs, and systems (on premise and in the cloud) to ensure everyone and everything has access to the same, accurate and appropriate information. Once you have the right information and understand it*, you need to act. But how can you coordinate all the people and elements throughout your organization to act quickly and correctly? *TIBCO’s Fast Data Platform provides the ability to be first to insight and first to action by making massive amounts of information consumable and understandable so it can provide value for the business, employees, partners, and systems.
  • 4. 4 Digitalization dig·i·tal·i·za·tion /¸dijitl-ə’zāSHən/ noun 1 The process of using disruptive technologies to innovate and increase business success. 2 The means to reinvent business value, open new economies, expand into new markets, and provide new levels of customer satisfaction. Digitization dig·i·ti·za·tion /¸dijitə’zāSHən/ noun 1 The process of converting data to digital for use in a computer. Another term for automation. Digitalize! Don’t just automate. To stay competitive by using all the available information to make optimal decisions and act fast—as well as to proactively prepare for rapid business change and innovation—you must do more than just automate what you have always been doing. You must “digitalize” to take advantage of new technologies, trends, and data sources. Digitalization is the third age of business process management (BPM), driven by the need to use BPM to differentiate and accommodate rapid change. TIBCO ActiveMatrix® BPM enables digitalization by providing flexible processes that can react to the right business events in real time. Rather than follow a prescriptive, predesigned path, your business processes can be proactively designed to change on-the-fly. Both people and systems can compose the best possible process for the situation and the information at hand. First, two requirements: To learn more about business digitalization and its effects read TIBCO’s ebook: ActiveMatrix BPM: Digitalize! Don’t Just Automate.
  • 5. 5 First requirement, business processes need to conform to business requirements, not to BPM software. In the past, a business solution was constrained by the BPM software it was built-on rather than designed directly to address actual business requirements. The days when business requirements took a backseat to software capabilities are over. Today, to differentiate using your processes, you cannot be constrained. Processes, and solutions based on them, must be flexible enough to cover all business and technical needs. To ensure that process-based solutions and apps are built to conform to business needs and requirements—and not limited by how the platform functions—ActiveMatrix BPM provides several capabilities: • A range of flexible user interface and API options The user interface is designed for both the web and mobile devices and can also be embedded in your own custom or hybrid client. • Multiple process types Three distinct process types, not just long-lived process flows, accommodate all types of processes and business requirements. • Dynamic work delivery The system can deliver work to groups, roles, positions, individuals, or lists based on business data, a required skill, or authorization level. • Dynamic and event-driven processes Processes react to business conditions at runtime. The exact path followed is based on business data or real-time events. • Intelligent work and resource management With a combination of organizational transparency and flexibility, dynamic calendars, model-driven process patterns, diverse work delivery methods, skills-based routing, and actionable business intelligence, your workforce’s full potential is unleashed. The expanded role of the business process platform will render business processes, and the solutions based on them, as mission critical to the enterprise. A mission-critical status brings a new set of technical requirements and standards, which is the second requirement
  • 6. 6 Second requirement, business processes need to be business friendly with enterprise strength. In the new era, your core business process solutions must meet the same stringent security, performance, reliability, scalability, and availability requirements as any other mission-critical application. ActiveMatrix BPM was conceived and designed to be business friendly with enterprise strength. It intuitively handles all organizational needs and reduces dependency on IT while meeting the demanding technical standards of mission-critical applications. It handles departmental processes as easily as enterprise mission-critical processes and spans human workflows to case management. It is the single business process platform for all enterprise business process needs. The new ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 release introduces several new features for digitalization. Flexible processes can: •  Identify and react to the right business events. • Access and present information in real time and in a consumable fashion. • Quickly act on what is happening right now. Rather than following a predesigned or prescribed path, ActiveMatrix BPM business processes can be proactively designed to change. Here’s how:
  • 7. 7 How to compose your processes for proactive change: Digitalization requires BPM to move beyond just automating human efforts and replacing paper-based solutions to supporting better human thinking and decision-making. ActiveMatrix BPM facilitates valuable business insights and actions by presenting your Fast Data in a consumable fashion at the right decision-making points. Business processes will no longer be limited to transactions or cases; they will be situational and interaction-based. ActiveMatrix BPM provides flexible processes that react to the right business events in real time. They are processes that can be designed or adapted on-the-fly by both people and systems. This capability is achieved by combining flexible processes with ad-hoc activities, independent work routing and distribution, and event-driven processes. This combination provides solutions that can truly digitalize your business, not just automate it. ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 has introduced capabilities in three areas that allow people and systems to compose and arrange the best possible process on-the-fly for the situation and information at hand: • Enhanced Case Management • Expanded BPM Analytics • Ease of Consumption and Use
  • 8. 8 Enhanced Case Management Capabilities Several styles of case management can be mixed and matched to devise a solution that fits your business requirements. Some styles are data-centric, others are document-, process-, or people-centric. With ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1, new features and capabilities enhance each of these case management styles. Case States and Actions Data-centric case management solutions make business objects (for example, a claim, policy, and/or policy holder) independent of running processes and the central focus of the solution, as opposed to long-lived process instances. Collections of small processes are used to interact with long-lived business objects. Case states and actions provide agility and context to data-centric case management. One example: John, a junior claims handler, has been assigned claim number 139, which is in the processing state, providing context. With ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1, John can see a list of valid actions that are available to him for this particular claim. If John changes roles, or if the case changes states, the case actions are reconfigured, and the list of John’s available actions are automatically updated in real time, providing agility. Available actions for different states and privileges are easily configured and changed by business users without IT intervention.
  • 9. 9 Ad Hoc Activities The “happy path” for processing a case (for example, an insurance claim or a fraud investigation) is almost always known ahead of time and can be easily expressed as a model. Complexity comes in when activities are triggered by user choices, or when there are several possibilities for when and how choices are made and who makes them. It is impossible to model every possible combination of activity, state, and data value. To meet the challenge, ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 introduces Ad Hoc Activities for case management flexibility without complexity and without introducing fragility. Ad Hoc Activities are not part of the standard process flow and are only activated when a precondition is met. Preconditions can be based on: • Case state values °° Case is in the processing (or other) state °° Only after the pay claim (or other) activity is completed • Business data values °° Claim is over $10,000 (or other value) • User privileges °° Must be a senior customer service representative (or other role or skill) Tasks can be activated manually, or automatically when either the precondition is met or an external event is received. This flexibility gives people (and systems) the ability to adjust processes on-the- fly as they see fit for the current situation, while still being bound by business rules and guidelines.
  • 10. 10 Global and Case Data Repository ActiveMatrix BPM 3.0 introduced a global data repository that is modeled, then created and administered by ActiveMatrix BPM. This allows a business object, such as a claim, customer, or policy (rather than a process), to be the central focus. Business objects have a completely separate lifecycle from the processes that interact with them and are stored separately from ActiveMatrix BPM transactional data. ActiveMatrix BPM global and case data: • Supports easy reporting by avoiding data types that are only readable through programming (BLOBs and CLOBs) • Provides easy discoverability because it can contain many searchable attributes • Has its own audited history • Can be externally accessed using a CRUD or search API • Automatically generates CRUD or search UI components for out-of-the-box clients or for embedding in custom and hybrid clients Case Folders and Document Operations Document-centric case management solutions have documents or other media associated with the case or business objects that need to be stored and accessed while a particular case is being worked on. ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 extends global and case data with document folders for storage and access to case related documents. It also introduces a series of document operation activities for process models for linking, unlinking, moving, searching, and deleting documents within a case or between cases. Case folders and document operations can be combined with case states and actions or ad hoc tasks to allow organizations to leverage their existing enterprise content management system (ECMS) investments. The combination provides a highly agile and dynamic solution that can be integrated with an organization’s data, people, processes, systems, APIs, and other entities.
  • 11. 11 Expanded BPM Analytics Capabilities Analytics can no longer be an afterthought. To stay competitive in this era of unprecedented change and Fast Data, you need contextual real-time reporting and insights, as well as the ability to immediately act upon them. A range of audiences with different needs interact with business processes and require different types of analyses: pixel perfect reporting, dashboards, ad hoc analysis, predictive analytics. All the analytical choices has led to confusion about what the right solution is, as well as unanswered business requirements; However, it is easy to determine the best solution by examining audience needs. Is your audience looking for answers to questions they already know? Then pixel perfect or dashboard reporting is the right solution for them. Is your audience looking to uncover insights, provide predictive views or simulations, or explore the data to discover questions they didn’t even know they had? Then business intelligence for ad-hoc analysis and predictive analytics is the right solution for them. Many enterprise mission-critical processes will require a bit of all types of analyses to satisfy all audiences. Pixel Perfect Reporting Dashboards Ad Hoc Analysis Predictive Analytics Reporting Business Intelligence
  • 12. 12 Pixel Perfect Reporting and Dashboards To expand BPM Analytics, ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 introduces JasperReports® for ActiveMatrix® BPM, which provides embedded self-service reporting within the business process platform. Jaspersoft was recently acquired by TIBCO, and this is the first TIBCO product to feature its embedded enterprise reporting capabilities. A number of interactive, extendable, and adaptable BPM pixel perfect reports and dashboards are now provided out-of-the-box with ActiveMatrix BPM. The major benefit of this union comes from the business user’s ability to define and manage their own reports and dashboards without IT intervention. JasperReports® for ActiveMatrix® BPM provides overlays to abstract away the complexities of the underlying data so information can be surfaced to the business user in a meaningful and business contextual way. JasperReports can use ActiveMatrix BPM global, case, and process execution data, which allows reporting on workload, process, and business performance. These reports and dashboards can also be enhanced with business data from enterprise systems of record. The out-of-the-box reporting dashboard is interactive and allows users to change live processes or cases in real time.
  • 13. 13 Ad Hoc and Predictive Analytics Expanded BPM analytics helps you know the status of your business at all times. But you also need the ability to quickly find and take action on and find opportunities and risks in time to affect their outcomes. Do I have a potential capacity problem? Is there a skills gap for projected work? Do I need to re-prioritize work? Reallocate resources within my team (permanently or temporarily)? TIBCO ActiveMatrix® BPM Spotfire® gives you the ease and flexibility to slice, dice, drag-and-drop, and drill-down into work, process, and resource details so you can find the information you need and take immediate, effective action directly from the dashboard. The business is able to change how the core business process operates to align it with current resources, capacity, load, and changing business goals—again, directly from the analytics dashboards—and without any IT intervention. Combining Human Insight with Machine Intelligence provides: • Intelligent adjusting of work distribution • Dynamic and automatic work prioritization • Service level agreement management • Pattern discovery (to understand the past) • Real-time work monitoring °° FTE estimates °° Predicted time to completion °° Available resources and skills • Forecasting of as-is scenarios • Priority simulations • As-is and what-if scenario comparison forecasts
  • 14. 14 Ease of Use and Consumption Capabilities Ease of use and consumption applies to both IT and business users. The new self-service reporting and enhanced case management capabilities described above are for the business user; the following capabilities are for IT users. BPM UI and Forms Designers: Introducing Live Development With ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1, new capabilities have been added to allow live iterative forms development without needing rebuild or redeploy process packages. Live development lets the user skip directly from design to test without the complete deployment cycle. The designer can immediately test all changes in real time directly from the design environment, or through a new feature in the ActiveMatrix BPM 3.1 out-of-the-box client. TIBCO iProcess Users and Developers: iProcess to ActiveMatrix BPM Model Conversion Automated tooling has been added to the design time of ActiveMatrix BPM for converting TIBCO iProcess® models to ActiveMatrix BPM models. Though this cannot address the wider external ecosystem that typically surrounds and interacts with iProcess solutions, it does convert all of the like-for-like functionality of TIBCO iProcess to TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM modeling notation and syntax. This significantly accelerates the conversion and transformation of legacy processes on iProcess to our flagship business process platform, ActiveMatrix BPM. BPM Developers and Designers: Developer Installations Developer installations is the first phase of a new lightweight installation specifically for process designers and developers. It reduces the overall footprint of the platform installation, as well as many of the underlying infrastructure requirements, so it is easier to install and run on local commodity desktop and laptop hardware. Some of these changes limit the native availability and scalability of ActiveMatrix BPM, so it is not recommended for mission-critical production use.
  • 15. 15 Meet the challenge with people, experimentation, and innovation. ActiveMatrix BPM provides flexible, change on-the- fly processes needed to deliver instant action—but of course another key ingredient is needed: people. How will your people find the best course of action, devise the best processes? By experimenting, observing, and experimenting again. TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM helps here, too, by alleviating the burden on IT and freeing business users to apply their ideas directly, then analyze and quickly iterate use-case specific solutions. ActiveMatrix BPM supports experimentation, which leads to innovation, differentiation, and competitiveness— even (and especially) in the era of Fast Data and unprecedented change.
