ORGANDIE FINISHING.pptx

  1. 1. TOPIC : ORGANDIE FINISHING
  2. 2. Organdie finishing is a finishing process in which, opaque fabrics is convert to a translucent fabrics. Generally this is apply on cotton fabrics and also in polyester, and low to medium gsm fabrics. By this finishing cotton fabrics cloth achieve a great extent of luster, transparent, stiff in addition to similar woollen plain, is called organdie finishing. Opaque fabrics Transparent fabrics
  3. 3. The outstanding objectives of organdie finishing are permanent stiffness, supreme transparency and excellent wash resistance. Lightweight tabby weave fabrics are suitable for an organdie finish, such as voile, muslin and batiste. More commonly, apparel designers use multiple layers of organdy to produce puffy dresses that are mostly opaque. Organdy remains a delightful, attractive fabric even if it is only rarely used in modern fashion. Organdy is the crispest type of cotton fabric. This textile is semi-transparent, and it is relatively delicate.
  4. 4. Organdie finishing can also be termed as parchmentizing finishing- that provides crispness, allows the final fabric to be stiff and crisp, making it light-weight and sheer. Process: The fabric is acid washed in sulphuric acid(66%v/v) for around 4- 5 seconds at or below room temperature. After the acid treatment, the cloth is neutralized in a weak alkali Next, the cloth is washed to remove the excess acidic or alkaline residue. Next Calendaring is done to impart surface gloss of the fabric.
  5. 5.  The longer that organdie is exposed to this acid wash, the stiffer it becomes, and organdie manufacturers carefully calibrate this fabric’s exposure to acid to control its resulting stiffness. After organdie finishing, manufacturer may bleach this fabric to make it perfectly white or dye it in various colors. It is also possible to embroider patterns on finished organdie fabric.
  6. 6. Generally, mercerizing machine is role for organdie finishing. Stenter machine besides role for this finishing. But it is important that, those machine material tin no react with amongst sulphuric acid. Mercerizing machine
  7. 7. Organdie finish produces a transparent effect, sheer combed lawn is used. The lawn is singed, desized, bleached and mercerised. The fabric is then dyed, printed with colours that resist acid damage. Fabric is now immersed in acid solution and fibre surface is partially dissolved. This surface hardens as a cellulosic film and when dry, it is permanently crisp and transparent. This overall treatment produces sheer stiff fabric- such as organdie fabric. The organdie fabric Is available in three Type of finishing Stiff Semi Stiff Soft
  8. 8. Organdie remains a popular material for dressy or ceremonial clothing for girls. In addition to First Communion dresses, organdie is also commonly used to make flower girl dresses and other types of girl’s clothing used for important events. Organdie is also used to make dressy clothing for adult women including various forms of evening wear, and designers sometimes incorporate organdie into wedding dresses.
  9. 9. Traditionally, organdie was commonly used to make cuffs and collars for men’s clothing, but these formal accessories have largely gone out of style. It’s still relatively common to find men’s dress jackets and other formal apparel made with organdie. This material is ideal for curtains, and it is sometimes used to make decorative upholstery.
  10. 10. One of the most common applications of organdie is as a lining inside of clothing made with other fabrics. Due to its remarkable stiffness, organdie lends structure to types of fabric that would otherwise be too soft or shapeless. Used as a lining, organdie's tendency to wrinkle is also concealed, which can make this thin, stiff fabric undesirable when used as the outer layer of a garment.
