For demonstrating their understanding of the establishment of kingdom of Israel and the events preceding and following it, they will pose as time travelers and create a travel journal
2. The project is focused on student learning about the
sequence of events pertaining to and following the
establishment of the kingdom of Israel.
The rubrics for the project are handed out along with
the project details, so the students would know
exactly what they need to include in their project.
In the course of the project, the students will
demonstrate skills such as critical thinking,
problem solving, collaboration, and self-
management.
3. Project Objective
To show their understanding of the
establishment of the kingdom of Israel,
the subsequent split in the kingdom and
the events that followed, students will
imagine themselves to be time-travelers
who have been travelling through
various points of time in the kingdom of
Israel from 100 B.C. to A.D. 70.
4. The Task...
The students will create a travel
journal to record their observations
about the kingdom of Israel and
various events preceding and
following it. They could use any style
for creating their journal. Style could
range from documentary to journalistic
to literary… They could be
humorous… or serious!!!
5. Group details…
Students will work in groups of 3 or 4.
Students will have a choice of choosing .their own
group members
I (teacher) will intervene if I am not comfortable with
the composition of any group (e.g. disruptive /
behavior issues students together in one group).
ELL / students with special learning needs will be
grouped with other students they are most likely to
be comfortable with, and with whom they are likely
to perform their best.
I have a student with a certain specific learning
need; he will work with his special education teacher
for this assignment. He is great at illustrations and
not too comfortable with writing, so he will be
allowed to depict his work mostly with illustrations.
6. The Travel Journal…
A travel log that will include personal /
travel diary type of entries.
Destination details
Date of entry
Illustrations (the students are encouraged to
draw their own illustrations… If illustrations are
from the internet, citation is must)

A timeline showing the establishment of kingdom
of Israel and all major events leading to the
Roman conquest.
Description of the establishment of the kingdom
of Israel, along with the accomplishments of the
ruling kings.
Details of the split in the kingdom of Israel and
description of the occupation by Assyrians and
Babylonians.
Change in Jewish belief while in Babylonian
captivity.
How Syrian control affected the Judaic people.
Description of Roman conquest of the Judaic
people.
8. The journal must also
include…
A summary of the establishment of the Kingdom
of Israel, along with the accomplishments of the
kings that ruled it. (events from about 100 B.C.
to A.D. 70).
Identification and brief description of key events
in the split in the kingdom of Israel

included here).

11. The students are encouraged to
be as creative as they can…
However, they must ensure that
all the information in their log is
factual and not fictional!
12. Tools they may use…
Students can present their travel journal
using any tool of their choice. Any online
travel journal template (there are very
interesting free templates available),
Powerpoint, voicethread, pen and
paper etc… All are acceptable!
They may also choose to use different
tools to depict different parts of their
projects. E.g. the timeline may be
presented on paper while the rest of the
project might be on a voicethread.
13. Due Date…
The completed project is due on
Wednesday / Thursday , November
25th . Each group will present their
project to the rest of the class, and seek
feedback.
Groups will then incorporate the
relevant feedback from peers and
teachers and submit it finally on
