1. 1. CMMI
CMMI v1.1 was published by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) in December 2001.
CMMI can be used to guide process improvement across a project.
CMMI Model Structure
The CMMI is structured as follows:

Maturity Levels (stagedrepresentation) or Capability Levels (continuous representation)
 2. 2. Process Areas
 3. 3. Goals
 4. 4. Practices

CMMI Stage representation levels:
Maturity level 1: InitialDevelopment is chaotic and ad hoc.
Maturity level 2: Managed Institutionalization; a documented plan, process description, training people, configuration management ..
Maturity Level 3: Defined standard processes; purpose, inputs, entry criteria, activities, roles, measures ..
Maturity Level 4: Quantitatively Managed control processes by statistical and other quantitative techniques (metrics).
Maturity level 5: Optimizing Processes are continually improved based on an understanding of common causes of variation within the processes
5. 5. CMMI Stage representation structure:
6. 6. CMMI Continuous representation structure:
7. 7. CMMI Continuous representation levels:
Capability Level 0: Incomplete
This is similar to Maturity Level 1 in the staged representation.
Capability Level 1: Performed
Performance stability, useful work can be done
Capability Level 2: Managed
Achieving model objectives for the process such as cost, schedule, and quality.
Capability Level 3: Defined
Everything is documented, measured, people are trained, and the results are tracked.
Capability Level 4: Quantitatively Managed
Product quality, process performance, and other business objectives are understood in statistical terms and are controlled throughout the life cycle.
Capability Level 5: Optimizing
focuses on continually improving process performance through both incremental and innovative improvements.
8. 8. CMM vs. CMMI

CMM more about software development
 9. 9. CMMI Software development, System engineering, product manufacturing People management and more..

Interpreting the CMMI: A Process Improvement Approach, Second Edition by Margaret K. Kulpa and Kent A. Johnson Auerbach Publications © 2008
ISBN:9781420060522
