The document outlines plans for a Canon campaign called "Shoot Your Travel" aimed at inspiring people to take photos during their travels. The plans include two magazine front cover designs, an advertorial design, and a print advertisement. For the front covers, one will feature a collage of travel photos and quotes while the other will use a background photo of a boat marina. The advertorial will highlight iconic hotels and local attractions in the area shown. Research was also conducted on journeys, Canon customers, and the target audience of 16-25 year olds to inform the designs.
2. My aims
My aims for the "Canon journey campaign" is that I would want people to understand that it is important to take pictures when
going somewhere outside your hometown. For this I am going to gather photos that I have took to inspire people to do the same.
This is because a photo can tell a thousand words and they can also tell someone who is looking at the pictures, of how much of a
good time you have had. This would also show people how beautiful the world is and places you never thought about going too are
also beautiful and could inspire you to visit.
I believe that having this on a front cover of a magazine is important as it would make people take pictures of places, they are
planning on going too. This would also inspire people to take pictures of places within the country they live in, these pictures does
not need to be abroad, as even England has some beautiful places, (but the weather might not help). With a front cover of a
magazine, it would mean that there can be images and text about the images, and what type of images you got by using different
camera angles. I am going to make a print advertisement of one location and show what you can do within that location.
My goal is to make people aware of taking pictures of places they are travelling too. This is because you could be travelling to that
place for a future life, for a holiday or could be work related. Either way you should shoot your travel as you are going towards a
destination that could change your life for the better, or it might make you realise somethings and could help you in the future.
4. First design planning
I want to add a small collage of the different places I have been too (this would be on the left). This is because it can
be used as inspiration to take pictures of where you travel.
I want the colour scheme for this design to be yellow, orange and white. These colours are going to be the text and
the boarded of the image collage. This is because I want bright holiday colours on this design, to create a positive
image.
I want the shoot your travel masthead at the top of the front cover, in bold serif text. As this is the title of the front
cover it needs to be visible and noticeable, so people knows what the front cover is about.
As this campaign is from Canon, I want a camera that people could use for travelling. This type of camera would be
the Canon powershot SX730hs as it is a compact camera and is useful for travelling.
For the text I want to add some travelling quotes which are "Travelling means new adventures", "flight, camera,
action" and " The whole world awaits you.. What's stopping you?" This is going to be on the right side of the photo
collage.
5. Second design planning
For the background I want a picture of one of the places I have been too. This picture is going to be a boat marina.
"Shoot your travel" masthead is going to be in the middle of the front cover. As I don't want this to cover the boat
marina, as I want it in middle so I wouldn't be covering it.
As this campaign is from Canon, I want a camera that people could use for travelling. This type of camera
would be the Canon powershot SX730hs as it is a compact camera and is useful for travelling.
The colour scheme for the overall magazine front cover is going to be the main image as it is a daytime image.
The text is going to be in a white colour at the bottom middle of the page. This text is going to be about the image,
what place it is going to be and where. This is going to be in a serif font style.
6. Print advertisement design planning
The background of this print advertisement is going to be of an iconic hotel.
I want the shoot your travel masthead in the top middle of the print advertisement. This means that it is not going to
cover any of the background image.
For the colour scheme it is going to be based off the background image, which was shoot during the day.
I am going to add 3 small images based of the location of the images. I want this print advertisement to be based on
the location that the background image is, this is to show people the many activities and places you can do when
you visit there.
I am going to add text that is going to be in small serif and is going to have the names of the different places so
people can look them up if they are interested in this location. This helps as people who wants to travel there, it
won't be a struggle to look for that activity.
7. My schedule
◦ Monday – Creating first and second front cover
◦ Tuesday – creating the advertorial
◦ Wednesday – type ups
◦ Friday – Blogger
8. Subject area
Using the subject area, I have founded out a lot of information about what a journey is and what it includes.
A journey doesn’t always need to be from one place to another it could also be mentally and personal growth. For
the type of journey, I am creating it is the type of journey that has a destination, but by using a camera. This is
because it could mean that your travel journey doesn't really end, as you will have the memories forever and you
will be able to look back on what you have captured anytime.
9. Client research
Using client research, I developed a better understand of who my clients are. Using the research, I have gathered it
made me feel comfortable to represent my client better by using what I know about them into my work. This is
helpful as it will show in my work that I am aware of Canon and what type of company they are. This also helps with
my audience as I would mostly be promoting my product to people who are photographers and videographers.
10. Researching the target audience
My target audience is people aged 16-25 years old. Using the google
forms survey I got to know my audience and find out what they
already know about my client. This helped me as I found out
information for example 'have they used Canon products before?' And
found out where they used one. This type of question helped me
understand if they would use a Canon camera outside of college or if
they just used them in college. This was important as their answers
could have helped me understand if they do photography or
videography in their free time.
I also asked them questions about what their hobbies are as some of
these hobbies example people have said sports and the gym, these
people could document their progress through either pictures and
videos. This also helped me understand what people do in their free
time in general.
11. Focus group
As I already did a survey to learn more about my audience,
I also did a focus group. This allowed me to get
information about questions related to the client and the
campaign but in more detail. This was helpful as the
people I asked were all aware of Canon and knew what
type of company they are. I was able to find out what
main areas people already knew and what areas people
might not have known. This will allow me to either
address the weak areas in my front cover design, as I
would have a range of information that can be helpful to
people who are interested in travel and cameras. There is
also areas that I don't need to cover such as the client as
people are very aware of who Canon are and what type of
products they produce.
