This STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN for ENGLISH language TEACHING features the
song “Left and Right” by Charlie Puth feat. Jung Kook from BTS.
Students TALK about music, DESCRIBE and CONNECT photos, WRITE a
paragraph about the photos with words from the song, LISTEN to the song and
IDENTIFY a word not in the lyrics, WATCH the music video and TALK about it.
OBS: This lesson plan was made for ONLINE TEACHING, but it can be modified
for face-to-face instruction, as well.

STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN
Step 1 (5 min)
Genially presentation link
slide 1. Slide 1. Ask your students: Can music help people solve problems? Explain.
Step 2 (7 min)
Slide 2. Have students describe the pictures. What’s going on in them? Do you
think music could help them in these situations? Why (not)? If so, How?
Step 4 (5 min)
PREPARATION IN ADVANCE. Create a collaborative doc with cryptpad and get a
link to share with your students. Here is the LINK for a quick video tutorial on how
to do it!
Decide who is group/pair 1, group/pair 2, etc before you share the link.
Share the link to the collaborative doc with your students and have them paste
their paragraphs to their corresponding places.
Step 5 (7 min)
Highlight the mistakes and have students correct them. You can have a vote on
the most creative, the craziest, funniest connections!
Step 6 (5 -7 min)
Slide 4. Tell students that the words they used in the previous steps are from a
song, with the exception of one! Play the song for them to identify the word that is
not in the lyrics. Play the song 2x or more, if necessary.
answer: the word KISS is not in the song.
Step 7 (5 min)
Ask students if they know the song and who sings it. (Charlie Puth and Jung Kook
from BTS). Ask them if they have seen the music video for the song. If they haven’t,
ask them what they expect to see in a music video for this song. If any student has
seen it, have him/her say what happens in the Music Video.
Step 3 (10 min)
slide 3. In pairs (breakout rooms),have students think about how the 3 pictures
could be connected. They must write a paragraph explaining the connection using
all of the 9 words below:
BED – BRAIN – DRINK – ERASE – FOCUS – FORGET – HEAD – KISS – PAIN
Have students save the paragraphs in a notepad so they can copy and paste it to
another doc later.
Step 8(5 min)
Play the music video for them to check their ideas and have them comment on it
to close the activity.

TEACHING ENGLISH WITH SONGS: CREATIVE INTERACTION WITH CHARLIE PUTH & JUNG KOOK – LEFT AND RIGHT

Jung Kook from BTS. Students TALK about music, DESCRIBE and CONNECT photos, WRITE a paragraph about the photos with words from the song, LISTEN to the song and IDENTIFY a word not in the lyrics, WATCH the music video and TALK about it.   • 2. STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN Step 1 (5 min) Genially presentation link slide 1. Slide 1. Ask your students: Can music help people solve problems? Explain. Step 2 (7 min) Slide 2. Have students describe the pictures. What’s going on in them? Do you think music could help them in these situations? Why (not)? If so, How? Step 4 (5 min) PREPARATION IN ADVANCE. Create a collaborative doc with cryptpad and get a link to share with your students. Here is the LINK for a quick video tutorial on how to do it! Decide who is group/pair 1, group/pair 2, etc before you share the link. Share the link to the collaborative doc with your students and have them paste their paragraphs to their corresponding places. Step 5 (7 min) Highlight the mistakes and have students correct them. You can have a vote on the most creative, the craziest, funniest connections! Step 6 (5 -7 min) Slide 4. Tell students that the words they used in the previous steps are from a song, with the exception of one! Play the song for them to identify the word that is not in the lyrics. Play the song 2x or more, if necessary. answer: the word KISS is not in the song. Step 7 (5 min) Ask students if they know the song and who sings it. (Charlie Puth and Jung Kook from BTS). Ask them if they have seen the music video for the song. If they haven’t, ask them what they expect to see in a music video for this song. If any student has seen it, have him/her say what happens in the Music Video. Step 3 (10 min) slide 3. In pairs (breakout rooms),have students think about how the 3 pictures could be connected. They must write a paragraph explaining the connection using all of the 9 words below: BED – BRAIN – DRINK – ERASE – FOCUS – FORGET – HEAD – KISS – PAIN Have students save the paragraphs in a notepad so they can copy and paste it to another doc later. Step 8(5 min) Play the music video for them to check their ideas and have them comment on it to close the activity. music video link
