JD Welcome and introduction – Introduce Bill and Patti
Bill Objectives for this session
Bill How this session will proceed. Tell them to write questions and save for the end.
JD At this point, a few directors, who have been contacted, will share their thoughts and experience in helping NAF think through this new model.
Patti The slide first shows the membership stages and how this is a continuum moving from left to right. The next animation shows how this is supported and informed by an annual self-assessment. Services and responsibilities are targeted for each level on the continuum.
Patti This information can be found in more detailed form on the Fact Sheet. The point is that NAF never before was able to target support across its continuum of academies. Doing so under this model will allow for better results in academies, as well as recognition from outside NAF, which can only benefit the network.
Patti Go through the comparison
Patti Continue the comparison. Mention that we will provide more detail in a few minutes about tools, programs, and services
Bill Introduce NAF support, which flows from the self-assessment
Bill Opening page of the self-assessment. This will be available online. Focus on the four goals under “Purpose.” Note the distinction between Membership Inventory and Growth Inventory
Bill The self-assessment is in four sections, as you can see here. When people enter their responses, this will add to a score, which will give you a sense of where you stand along the continuum.
Bill This shows the stages as described in the self-assessment
Bill Link to GSGs/DVDs – Show how they align with NAF pillars. Add Andy’s piece on curriculum & certification. Bill mention Internship Gold Standards.
Bill Screen shot of CD
Bill Include general information on applying for year-long programs. Mention that ARC is in pilot right now, and that there will be an opportunity to apply for these programs later in the school year. This is the reason to do the self-assessment and be clear about your needs—in order to get these services from NAF.
Bill These groups already are in place, and NAF is looking to continue and expand them.
Patti Mention that this is explained on the 1-page timeline, which provides details and contact information.
Steve M. Outline ways people can share their thoughts during and after the conference
Steve M. Have people develop this in pairs then share with the table. Have the tables share out.
All
NAF has traditionally allocated its services in a one-size fits-all approach. Except for YOP at the beginning stage, there has been limited differentiation as to how NAF approaches academies.
But academies come in different flavors. A one-size approach to all academies is not a good way for NAF to deploy its services. By targeting services in a way that respects academy differences, NAF can ultimately have a greater impact.
