•Federal commitment to “sustainable procurement”
•Impact of sustainable procurement on acquisition of services, products and construction
•The process for achieving acceptance of green products for use on installations and in
federal buildings
•Recommendations for promoting green products to federal customers; implementation
and maintenance of environmental management systems

Fort Bragg Initiatives
Current Initiatives (Installation/Agency: Fort Bragg)
1. Cross-functional Green Procurement Team
2. Partnerships with preferred sources of supply-GSA, SSSC (LCI), and DLA
3. Greening materials through NCDEE/DLA product substitution and evaluation
(absorbents, PLOs)
4. Working with MICC to ensure 95% of contracts meet sustainable procurement
requirements
5. Conduct Green Procurement training with GPC holders to ensure they are meeting
green procurement requirements and using correct supply sources.

1. Continue working with preferred sources of supply-GSA, SSSC (LCI), and DLA
2. Continue greening materials through NCDEE/DLA product substitution and evaluation

3. Working with MICC to ensure 95% of contracts meet sustainable procurement
requirements
4. Continue to educate GPC holders with green procurement training to ensure they are
meeting green procurement requirements and using correct supply sources

Camp Lejeune Initiatives
Current Initiatives (Installation/Agency: Camp Lejeune )
1. Lean Sigma Six Black Belt Study: GOVCC Hazardous Material procurement process
Government Credit Card study on procuring hazardous materials
2. Battery Procurement – The Environmental Management Division is investigating
replacing single-use communications batteries with rechargeable ones and distribution of
wet and gel cell vehicle batteries.
3. Plastics Recycling: The Qualified Recycling Program (QRP) diverted 338 tons of
plastics from the Base Landfill.

Camp Lejeune Initiatives
Current Initiatives (Installation/Agency: Camp Lejeune )
4. Load Screening Program: The QRP program has initiated a load screening program to
ensure appropriate documentation for disposal of government property and scarp
materials. Approximately 80 loads of material/scrap are screened on monthly basis
5. Currently streamlining the Environmental Management System Procedures, the
Sustainability Plan and the Green Procurement Plan into one cohesive document that is
user friendly and mirrors the DoD Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan.
6. Beginning with FY09; all MILCON is required to achieve LEED Silver certification. We
are exceeding LEED Silver with several of our projects, to include the FY10 P1160
Wallace Creek Fitness Center.

1. Lean Sigma Six Black Belt Study: Green Procurement Process – Study on Serv-Mart
to replace existing items with “green” substitutes – will require green products to be
sold
2. All future contracts require environmentally friendly products to be purchased
