2. WHAT IS ANDROPAUSE?
You’re experiencing low sex drive, your energy level
isn’t up to par and your strength isn’t what it was. These
are conditions that may occur in any man as we get
older, but they’re also often related to a drop in
hormone production. And that’s what andropause is all
about.
3. MORE ABOUT ANDROPAUSE
• It’s been known for a long time that levels of male
hormones produced in the testes drop as men get
older.
• Lately more attention is being paid to what this
means clinically.
• Men used to shrug it off as an expected part of the
aging process. However, physicians are now
discovering medical solutions to address these
symptoms of andropause.
• Many men get into a very poor cycle – they are tired,
and don’t have energy to exercise. This often leads
to increased weight gain, difficulty sleeping, and
more exhaustion. This vicious cycle can be very hard
to reverse.
4. SYMPTOMS OF ANDROPAUSE
Andropause is not a sudden condition; it
usually creeps up on you gradually.
Andropause symptoms include:
• Low sex drive and erections not as strong as they
were. Nocturnal erections don’t happen as often.
• Mood changes, irritability or depression
• Low energy levels

• Insomnia or other sleep difficulties
• Lean body mass reduces along with muscle and
mass strength.
• An increase in belly fat
• Bone density decreases resulting in osteoporosis,

9. ANDROPAUSE DIAGNOSIS
• To diagnose andropause, a blood test is necessary for
measuring testosterone levels.
• While it’s true that decreased testosterone levels are a
factor, other issues may weigh in.
• For instance, more sex hormone-binding globulin
(SHBG) may limit testosterone from traveling out of the
bloodstream to the tissues.
• Other hormone problems may cause less testosterone
production or may mimic low testosterone symptoms.
10. ANDROPAUSE DIAGNOSIS – CONT.
A few issues you should be aware of:
• The definition of low testosterone varies.
• It is usually impossible to compare your current levels
to the ones you had earlier, because testosterone is
usually not measured in younger men.
• It’s important to measure your testosterone levels
more than once, as the levels can vary even within
the same hour.
• There is no one “right” level of testosterone for all
men.
11. ANDROPAUSE TREATMENT
Once andropause is diagnosed, andropause treatment
is often very easy and effective.
The goal is to reduce the andropause symptoms:
• Improve sexual functioning
• Increase libido
• Increase energy level, mental functions and sense of well-
being
• Improve muscle strength and reduce body fat
• Prevent or reverse osteoporosis by optimizing bone density
12. TESTOSTERONE REPLACEMENT
THERAPY
• Testosterone replacement therapy is often a very effective
way to get your normal level of testosterone back.
• There are a number of ways to treat andropause with
testosterone therapy.
• These methods include injections, long-acting slow release
pellets and transdermal (through the skin) patches and
gels.
• All of these are FDA approved.
