Lesson in Science 5

1. Objectives:
-Classify animals according to the food they
eat.
-Give examples of each classifications.

2. Animal are multi-cellular
organism that obtains energy by eating
food.
- The study of animals is known as
zoology.

3. Most animals start life as a single
fertilized cell, which divides many times
to produce the thousands or millions of
cells needed to form a functioning body.

4. During this process, groups of cells
develop different characteristics and
arrange themselves in tissues that carry
out specialized functions.

5. 1. Herbivore are animals
that eats only plant
material.

6. Herbivores are primary
consumers in the food web,
eating plants that absorb
and store energy from the
sun through photosynthesis.

7. Herbivores are preyed
upon by carnivores, which
are considered secondary
or tertiary consumers.

9. 2. Carnivore are animal
that subsists mainly on the
flesh of other animals.

10. The carnivores are at the top
of the food chains that make
up the food web of the earth’s
life forms.

11. They feed on herbivores, or plant eaters,
which in turn feed on the plants or
dinoflagellates, at the bottom of the food
chains, that absorb and store energy
directly from the sun.

12. Carnivores live mainly
alone or in small groups
and are not preyed upon
except by other carnivores.

14. 3. Omnivore, an animal that
eats both animal flesh and
vegetable matter.

15. Omnivores can be both
primary and secondary
consumers within the food
web.

Mockingbird Pig Spotted Skunk
