  1. 1. RECCE
  2. 2. ARE THERE ANY POTENTIAL HAZARDS THAT COULD POSE A HEALTH AND SAFETY RISK WHERE YOUR PHOTO SHOOT WILL TAKE PLACE? Inside the park, there may be a lot of litter which could pose a potential risk during my photo shoot. As the park often has a lot of people inside of different ages, the litter could include sweet wrappers but also glass bottles which could be sharp if they were smashed. Also, there will be lots of branches that could fall from the trees or have already. Depending on how they have snapped off the tree, they could be very sharp and be dangerous to walk on as they could cut you if they were stood on in a certain way.
  3. 3. WHAT WILL YOU DO TO ENSURE THESE RISKS ARE MINIMISED? To ensure these risks are minimised, I will ensure to check the area I wish to use for the photo shoot for any of these potential hazards and carefully remove them before beginning the photo shoot. I will also try to choose a location that lowers the risk of branches breaking from trees by choosing somewhere that involves a way of exiting the desired location quickly to minimise the risk.
  4. 4. WILL THE TIME OF DAY/WEATHER AFFECT THE OUTCOME OF THE PHOTOS? HAVE YOU ALLOWED FOR THIS? For my photo shoot to be successful, I need to take the pictures on a dry, dark night to get the desired effect. To do this, I will plan to meet my model at dawn as at this time, the day will be turning darker. If it were raining on the day scheduled, I would have to rearrange as this would be inappropriate for the photo shoot as the camera could become broken due to water damage and the photos would not be as successful.
  5. 5. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE BACKGROUND TO YOUR PHOTOS, PARTICULARLY IF TAKEN OUTSIDE? HOW WILL YOU ENSURE YOU WILL GET THE BACKGROUND YOU WANT? To ensure I get the desired background, I have carried out a location scout to ensure that I have positive that the location I take the photos is the right place. I have a range of places that I could potentially take the photos. This allows me to quickly decide whether the photos I take, work in that particular location or if I need to change location on the day.
  6. 6. HAVE YOU CONSIDERED LIGHTING? WHAT ABOUT THE ‘PROBLEMS’ OF NATURAL LIGHTING, EITHER OUTSIDE, OR STREAMING THROUGH A WINDOW? WILL YOU NEED TO USE A FLASH? HAVE YOU CONSIDERED REFLECTIVE OBJECTS THAT MIGHT SPOIL THE EFFECT? I plan to use a flash for my photos as I will be unable to use natural lighting due to my photos being taken in the dark for effect. Before carrying out the photo shoot, I will check the location to remove any reflective objects that could potentially ruin the image.
  7. 7. DO YOU NEED PERMISSION TO TAKE PHOTOS IN THE PLACE/VENUE YOU HAVE IN MIND? Due to the location being in a public place, I do not need permission to take my photographs here.
  8. 8. DO YOU NEED TO BOOK TIME IN A ROOM? As my photos will be taken outside, I do not need to book any studios for my photo shoot.
  9. 9. ARE OTHER PEOPLE/CROWDS LIKELY TO BE AN ISSUE FOR YOU? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ENSURE THAT IT WILL NOT SPOIL THE EFFECT? As it is a public place, there is a chance of other people being present at the time. To minimise the chances of a large amount of people being present, I have chosen a secluded area in the park so that not many people are likely to pass it.
  10. 10. ARE YOU RELIANT ON LIFTS/PROPS/FRIENDS’ EQUIPMENT/MODELS? HOW HAVE YOU PLANNED THAT THESE THINGS WILL COME TOGETHER AT THE APPOINTED TIME? PLAN B? I am having someone model for my photographs but I am using my own equipment and my own way of travelling to the location. To ensure that my model is able to make it, I will check with her first and arrange a time that is suitable for both of us. If something comes up, I will rearrange the time that is also suitable for both of us as my plan B.
  11. 11. FINALLY, HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF EVERY EVENTUALITY…? I have thought of everything that could potentially go wrong ranging from what to do if an injury occurs to ensuring that my model is happy to reschedule if necessary.
