Présentation expliquant simplement comment bien dormir
Who here can drink coffee all day, even in the evening and still sleep very well?
Who has trouble falling asleep if they have a cup of coffee or tea after 3pm?
For those of you who think you are lucky to be able to drink coffee or tea anytime, I have a surprise for you. For those who are sensitive to caffeine, when they drink coffee, they experience some real benefits. Higher intellectual performance and alertness. If they are tired and have some coffee, they wake up and are in good form.
For those of you who are proud of drinking coffee at anytime, you don’t see any noticeable affects from a cup, except a fast heartbeat.
Ok, so now, let me explain why you are different.
Everyone has adenosine receptors. And genetically, in some people, the caffeine competes with adenosine and wins. In those of you who can drink coffee no matter the hour, the adenosine receptors prefer to stay sleepy and don’t drink coffee even if you do.
Watch out for dark chocolate!
When you are tired and if you have the time, instead of a cup of coffee, try taking a nap!
As we have just seen, people who go to bed very late are called night owls and people who are early risers are called larks or early birds. These two types account for 5 – 6% of the population. This impacts their choice of career. You won’t be a baker if you are a night owl because waking up at 4 in the morning is impossible. And you won’t run a night club if you are an early bird. So, naturally, you won’t be attracted to a night job if you love going to bed at 8pm.
There is a strong genetic heritage for these rhythms and very often you will find that whole families are night owls or larks. If you think that you are outside the norm, you can go online and take the Horne and Ostberg circadian typology survey, to better understand your habits.
When rhythms become no longer compatible with day to day life, patients are considered to have either delayed or advanced sleep phase disorder. Very occasionally patients seem to have no rhtyhm at all.
Let’s move on to look at how the biological clock changed with age.
The screens are amplifying this delayed phase and became a major problem. They are stimulating the wake system and the light stimulates alertness and delays the secretion of melatonin.
