Clinical Outcome Assessments Breakout Report

  1. 1. Clinical Outcome Assessments Breakout Group Report
  2. 2. What has already been done and how is it related? • Severity Alopecia Tool (SALT) Score: relatively quick, reliable assessment measure of overall hair loss but does not identify new areas of hair loss or track response in areas of hair loss if less than full regrowth • Alopecia Density and Extent (ALODEX) Score: more time consuming to perform but provides documentation of new lesions and incremental increases in hair density • Lesional Density Score (LAD): useful primarily for intralesional treatments as no one area can be representative of the whole head
  3. 3. What questions still need to be answered? • Focus on identification of domains important to meaningful response • For investigators • Change in SALT score • Target SALT • Overall coverage • Assessment other areas of hair loss: eyebrows • For patients • How do we better define meaningful impact, satisfaction • Assessing and meeting expectations
  4. 4. What resources are needed? • Need to further determine how to best use photos—in assessment by global panel, by patients? • Need to develop a tool to assess eyebrow and lash regrowth • Develop a training tool on SALT that is available for clinical trials and all dermatologists to use in clinic (EMR) • Develop an overall assessment based on SALT change multiplied by quality assessment x return to acceptable hair growth • Get a better assessment of patient benefit vs risk for treatment options
  5. 5. What can NAAF do to help? • Continued emphasis on developing new outcome measures • Continued collaboration with key stakeholders
