1. Common People- Pulp
Textual Analysis
The song Common People is our chosen music for our coursework.
We aim to recreate the style of editing, the use of camera and
obviously sound that is used within the Pulp music video.
Editing and mise en scene are large influences from this music video
as we aim to create our own original video but in the style of the
common people video. Using post production editing we aim to create
surreal scenes and play with the viewers imaginations. Mise en scene
is an important part of this as we aim to have some sort of narrative in
parts of the video, meaning the locations at certain points need to
have a correlation. However, are not essential in others.
With post production editing we can create scenes that are virtually
impossible to create by use of camera and mise en scene. For
example, we will look to have a live band playing the song “Common
People” within the music video.
We aim to use post production editing to place the band into surreal
situations, for e.g. place them in the middle of a busy road, shrink
them to a smaller size etc. This correlates with the Common People
music video as post production editing is a large part of the effects of
the video and green screening to create surreal scenes is an
influence from the Pulp video that we aim to use to create certain
shots.
