2. Introduction
Originally I have decided to use survey monkey to do my questionnaire but I
couldn’t embed any of my video adverts on to it in order to find out the
feedback on it and my ancillary tasks therefore I have decided to go back to
the old fashioned way of doing things and handing out questionnaires and
analysing the results.
I have decided to do a survey with closed and open questions to ensure that
there is a balance and still get the opinions through from the person filling
out questionnaires. The open questions are not represented in pie charts
therefore look at conclusion to find answers to open questions.
I have a general sample of those that have answered the survey from various
ages, genders and their own personal cleaning habits. I also didn’t want a
long questionnaire as in total the person had to look at my products for 6
minutes and I wanted around a 10 minute questionnaire.
3. Gender
Gender of those that anwsered survey
Female Male
I have on my blog emphasised the representation of
women in media and over and over I have
mentioned how they are seen. For these adverts I
have aimed to make males the target audience for
these adverts. In the pie chart we can see
predominantly its women that have answered the
survey so for the later question we must keep that
in mind for the upcoming results. From the past we
know that the woman’s role in society used to be to
stay at home and clean, of course that has changed
yet it is interesting to see whether this stereotype
has changed much.
4. Age
I have quite decent amount of samples of
ages which gives me a good background to
understand more about what these age
groups could potentially clean, buy
domestic products or whether they would
be interested in buying. I have aimed to
capture men’s attentions from ages 26-30
as my target audience and also those
families with children which of course is a
universal number and cant be put into an
age range since it would complicate data
as some married or cohabiting partners
are ages apart.
5. Domestic cleaning
This is an important question to ask since those
that have answered no are less likely to pay
attention to adverts that advertise any
domestic products let alone know anything
about them. Many people have answered that
yes they do domestic cleaning at home and
some have mentioned sometimes this means
that they should have an idea of existing
cleaning products out there like Daz.
6. Interested in buying?
Are you interested into buying the product after
viewing these adverts?
No yes
This question makes me aware whether my
adverts are persuasive enough for people to buy
them. Majority have said that they would
meaning that I have created a media text that
fits into the conventions of an advert that I have
made and has persuaded them to buy the product
which means marketing this product was
successful depending on the sales generated. This
could get a bit more business like.
7. Conclusion of results
Generally my survey has been answered by women, dominant ages 26-30, majority
of people clean and also majority of people would be interested in buying my
product after seeing my adverts. This reflects that probably the stereotype of
women has shifted slightly and that now not all of them are concerned with
cleaning and there was a sample of people that have answered sometimes which
means that they don’t always clean, that could reflect those of the younger ages
but then again that would be an unfair representation. I am quite happy with the
result that people would buy the product but I am also quite pleased that males
not by far to women have also answered this survey meaning that my product
would had of been bought by men and women. Men are not so dirty after all. Aim
accomplished.
The open questions I have asked were what do you find appealing about the media
text? I have asked this question for each type of media text I have made. Different
people mentioned different things such as the humour that can be found in the
two adverts, the accent in the radio advert or for the web pop up that it fits the
conventions and has a good layout.
8. Comparison to last year
Last year I assumed that I did attract my audience yet I haven’t conducted a
questionnaire or haven’t tried in any form getting peoples feedback upon the
work I have done. This again shows me how terrible I have evaluated my
questions and how careless I have been not to get any feedback to see what
people have really thought about it. When I was answering ‘’How did you
attract your media audience?’’ question I haven’t even used any other
technology and decided to write a paragraph on my blog. I am quite
disappointed about this and again explains the grade that I got last year.
