Azreen moved forward, wisely keeping the men at a distance.
She hoped they would not spot her until it was too late to stop
her. Now that she was closer to the house, she finally saw her
friend. He, too, held a torch in his hands. In the other, he was
holding a long hoe. He was much nearer to the house than the
other men. Unlike them, he had been within before. And most
importantly, loss and anguish fuelled his actions. His eyes
burned wildly like the fire on his torch.

4. The novel that I had studied is The Curse written by
Lee Su Ann. From this novel, I would like to choose
my favourite character that is Azreen who
demonstrated a great value of courage especially in
her mission to unfold the mystery of her sister’s
death.

5. Firstly, the value of courage is being demonstrated
by Azreen when she confessed that she was the
one open let the gate opened causing the
buffalos to go missing. She did this in order to
protect her dear friend, Mohd Ashraf who was
the one who supposed to take care of the
buffalos. Even though she had fingers pointing
at her and being severely reprimanded by her
father, she never did tell the truth to save Mohd
Ashraf’s skin thus, making her a courageous
girl.

6. Next, Azreen also demonstrated the value of courage
when she befriended the Old Lady who was alienated
by the villagers for killing her abusive husband. Even
when she was a little, she had shown great courage
when she stepped up to the challenge of the other
children to go to the Old Lady’s house. Although there
were nasty rumours about the Old Lady of being an evil
witch, she still dared to face the challenge. Then after
she had grown older, she became the Old Lady’s friend
whom she confided in. Usually, when there are
rumours about somebody else, we tend to feel scared
of that somebody but not Azreen. She had faith in
herself and is courageous to find out the truth.

7. Lastly, Azreen indeed demonstrated the value of
courage by attempting to protect the Old Lady from
Mohd Ashraf and the other villagers. The unfortunate
thing happened when the Old lady was accused of killing
Nek, Mohd Ashraf’s grandmother. Puan Normala, the
village gossip monger spreaded rumour that it was the
old Lady’s fault that Nek passed away. Mohd Ashraf who
believed the rumour, burnt down the Old Lady house in a
fit of anger with the Old lady in it. Azreen tried to stop
him by standing in front of the huge crowd but she failed
in the end. Her attempt to protect Old Lady shown the
courageous side Azreen.
In a nutshell, Azreen really showed the value of courage
making the story a joy to read.
