Delivering complex business services in your organization demands a rigid approach to server deployment and management. Modern data centers often have distributed virtual and physical servers as well as management teams which make the challenge even more difficult. Increasing headcount in your group is typically not an acceptable answer so how do you manage the growing complexity? The answer lies in a complete physical and virtual server life cycle management solution which provides the automation of application deployments.
In Part IV of its five-part webinar series "Managing IT Operations in a Virtualized World", Pepperweed Consulting will discuss how a combination of HP Server Automation and HP Operations Orchestration can streamline the deployment of your operating systems, software and patches for both your physical and virtual infrastructure. We will also analyze how compliance and application release management play a key role in ensuring control over your server deployments.

HP Server Automation is the industry leading solution for end to end server and application lifecycle management. It can help automate compliance management by enabling users to set and enforce corporate standards for configurations, deploy OS and software patches regularly and reduce risks by staying up to date with regulations It can also help server administrators better manage virtual machine sprawl. VMs have a tendency to proliferate in an environment. Server Automation enables administrators to manage the complete lifecycle with the same policies and processes that are used to manage physical servers. SA also enables admins to map the relationships and dependencies between physical and virtual servers. At the end of the day you want to manage your virtual machines with the same tools, processes and rigor as you manage your physical machines and we allow you to do that. SA also helps streamline the application release process. It enables application updates to be deployed consistently and according to best practices. It can be used coordinate the people processes and code across the QA, Staging, delelopment and production environments. This includes both different content and server baselines in this environment Server Automation can also be used to enable centralized IT management. It ’s architecture is uniquely suited for highly available large scale distributed environments. It provides uses with a way to share best practices and a consistent set of tools across heterogeneous systems and provides administrators with the same level of visibility and control across the complete environment

All of these companies turned to our Server Automation product to solve their challenges and the results were remarkable With server automation, the major retailer was able to reduce the amount of time it took to implement changes on 2600 servers from 2 weeks to 20 minutes resulting in a 99% improvement in efficiency The managed service provider was able to reduce the amount of time it took to provision and configure 600 windows servers from 3-4 months to 2 weeks A key customer was able to reduce the amount of for their compliance management from 32 weeks to 2 days Another key managed services provider was able to reduce the amount of severity 1 level incidents from 80+ per week to 1 per week. All of these customers were able to reap huge gains in efficiency through the power of automation.
There are a lot of rules once you get into production about checking utilization rates and best configurations for the virtual machines. Our customer really had no good way of tracking this information. Before HP it was quite manual they way they logged into the vendor point tools to ident utilization rates. Now with HP they just do it as part of the audits that run every night or they do it during the day at peak hours. So now they can be more proactive about identifying things that are out of compliance with their corporate standards.
