8. * Check your Blood Pressure Regularly (Hypertension is a big
risk factor).
* STOP SMOKING.
* Eat Healthily – 5 Fruit & Vegetables A Day.
* 20 minutes Exercise A Day e.g. ironing, gardening, brisk
walking, etc.
* Reduce Alcohol Intake.
* If You Have One or More Of The Symptoms Of A Stroke, But It
Doesn’t Last Longer Than 24hrs – Check with your GP - This
could be a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) A Warning That A
Full Blown Stroke is Going To Happen).

9. * Following A 999 Call You Will Be Taken To One Of
The NHS Hyper-Acute Stroke Units Where A
Specialist Team Will Assess Your Stroke And Carry
Out Various Clinical/ Medical Tests i.e. MRI/CT
Scan. An Operation May Be Necessary, Usually You
will Stay On The Hyper Acute Unit For Around 72Hrs
Or Until You Are Stabilised. Dependant On The
Outcome Of The Stroke You Will Then Be
Transferred To A Stroke Rehabilitation Unit For
Intensive Therapy And Recovery Until You Are Well
Enough To Be Discharged.

10. * Dependant On Recovery There Are Various Types Of
Support.
* Continuing Therapy.
* ReAblement Teams To Achieve Activities Of Daily
Living i.e. Washing, Toileting, etc. To support
Independence.

* 6 Week And 6 Month Follow Up And Then Annual
Follow Up.
