SUMMARY
• What is the genre of the film?
Horror film
• What will the opening two minutes of the film entail?
The opening sequence will reveal the characters together as teenagers (in the early 2000s), playing this
game at a sleepover. At first, nothing will happen and they will go back to what they were doing but a few
seconds later, shadows will appear on the walls, the temperature will drop and the girls’ candles will blow
out and the camera they’re filming on will cut out. This will be where the opening title appears and the
film proceeds.
• What is the film about overall?
The overall film will surround the lives of the girls now and how this game comes back to haunt each of
them, bringing them all back together to defeat the Midnight Man once and for all.

SETTING
• What will the set look like?
The opening sequence will be set in a 2000s teenage girl’s bedroom. It will have posters on the walls, fairy lights etc.
(see next slide for examples).
• Where will this be filmed?
Someone’s bedroom, with the girl sitting on the bed together.
• Details surrounding the colour palette?
Stereotypical teenage girl’s bedroom- full of pinks, oranges, red. Very colourful.
• Lighting?
Use of lowkey lighting. Fairy lights and candles account for most of the light. This is until the end where the girls’ candles
all go out, leaving them in pitch black. The candles will be used to light up the girls’ faces.
• Practicalities?
All of this set/ props can be easily found, whether its cheap on Amazon (candles) or already owned by someone.

CHARACTERS
There will be 5 girls in the group.
• Appearance
Wearing clothes typically seen in the 2000s, some people in pyjamas to juxtapose the narrative. See next slide for an example of what each girl could
wear.
• Actions/Behaviours in sequence:
See next slide for a full explanation on the Midnight Game. The girls will be filming themselves playing the game. , and explaining to the camera what
they’re doing. Some will be keen to play this game whereas some will be nervous and defiant. At some point, the girls will get bored as they’ve been
sitting around for too long and get on with something else, about to stop filming. However, a few seconds later the midnight man will eventually show
signs of his presence.
• Dialogue:
Overlapping dialogue (stereotypical teenage presentation). Girls will be talking to the camera/ each other about the game.
• Practicalities (Who to cast? Where to get costumes/props? Specific hair and makeup?)
Easily cast girls in A1/A2. Costumes- found in people’s wardrobes/ charity shops. Hair and makeup done themselves.

TECHNICAL IDEAS
• Camera (specific shot types, movements, camera angles):
Long shots and wide shots- to make sure the group can all get into the shot.
Handheld shots- shows the girls are filming it themselves.
Towards the end- point of view shot/ high angle of the group/ certain girls to make it seem as if someone is watching them.
Editing (pace, visual effects, transitions):
Going to appear as if it has been filmed on an early 2000s video camera. Cut between the girls’ own footage and other footage of
them. Long takes to start of with, creating a casual feel but as the tension builds towards the end, short takes to creating a more
urgent/ quicker pace.
• Sound (music, foley):
Music playing out of a CD player in the back/ A film playing in the background?
• Titles/ Credits:
Girls’ names appear when they hold the camera. Title of the film appears when the camera cuts off at the end.

APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE
• Why will my opening sequence be appealing?
This opening sequence will be appealing as it offers different interests. It is set in
the 2000s, so those who grew up in the 2000s may feel nostalgic watching it. It is
also a horror film so will attract those who enjoy the genre. In addition, its based on
a group of teenage girls so will appeal to that age range as well.
Why will the audience want to carry on watching the film?
The opening sequence ends on a cliff hanger, making the audience want to
continue watching the film and find out what happens.
