1. Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Pia Marcussen and I am, potentially, the next Assistant Produce Manager
for Farm Boy. Although I have not worked in the food sector, I have a wealth of retail
experience. Please allow me to take this opportunity to convince you that I am the best
choice for this position.
I have a strong work ethic and an eagerness to learn. As a result, I have developed
many skills and learned a great deal about the business of retail. Good customer service
is the cornerstone of any successful business and I am well-trained in that area. I have
developed a loyal clientele at Susan J by treating customers with respect, doing my best
to meet their needs and resolving any problems/issues that occasionally surface with
professionalism and efficiency.
As the Warehouse Manager, I am responsible for receiving and ticketing all
merchandise and ensuring that it arrives on the sales floor in a timely manner. Since
fashion retail is season-based, I must also ensure that any carryover stock is prepared
and sent to the stores at the appropriate time to avoid any missed opportunities for sales.
I process any adjustments to our current inventory, including receiving /distributing
merchandise and handling vendor returns, through our computerised inventory system.
I also keep any back-up stock and off-season goods organised in the warehouse and make
sure that they are ready when needed to go onto the sales floor.
I work alongside the owner to determine what stock should go onto the sales floor in
the outlet and how that stock should be merchandised and displayed. I have also been
instrumental in making sure that our special 1-day blow out sales are well-planned, well-
stocked and organised and therefore very successful. I have been involved in many local
bridal shows and other off-site projects determining what stock to include and setting up
the displays. While I currently work independently in the warehouse, I have supervised
teams of co-workers in the past and continue to do so in the case of the special projects I
mentioned.
In the course of my career at Susan J, I have developed the skills to be successful both
on the sales floor and behind the scenes: customer service, merchandising & display,
inventory management and control, scheduling, purchasing, etc. I am an active
participant in the regular staff meetings, offering advice, observations and suggestions
with a particular focus on improving customer service and maintaining good co-worker
relations.
I have spent many years learning this business and look forward to taking on the
challenges of a new career direction. I admire the way your company does business with
its focus on fresh and on exceptional customer service. I hope you will give me the
opportunity to sit down and discuss the possibility of taking my career in the Farm Boy
direction.
Sincerely, Pia Marcussen
