Decentralized I.T. Workloads in more clouds, localized app ownership, attention on self-service, and a shared focus on business value. Accelerating transformation. Companies moving faster towards software-driven future. This means new skills, and more diverse runtimes needed. Security as a CEO priority. Threats, new and old, have major business impact. Passive security isn’t enough. Reactive architecture takes hold. Applications become event-driven in order to drive real-time insight and behavior. 23

It’s real. T-Mobile goes from 7 months and 72 steps to update software, to same day deployments. Liberty Mutual builds and deploys an MVP in one month and delivers revenue- generating version just months later. Comcast supports over 1500 developers with an operator team of 4 people. The Home Depot ships to production 1,500 times a month, and 17,000 times a month to all environments. 24

Executes recommended operational health checks as continuous validation tests. It stores and displays the results of the checks as well as forwards this data into the Loggregator Firehose for external consumption by existing customer solutions. PCF Healthwatch is designed to complement existing monitoring tools.

As a result, VM create and delete time (often the majority of time spent in may Ops Man deploys) is eliminated. Once adopted by the various tiles, it will greatly improve the operator experience in terms of time spent for any Apply Changes. Deployment time can be reduced by as much as 50%. Testing showed a typical fully-HA PCF deployment time going from ~70 to ~35 minutes. 39

Containers get an IP address on a NSX-T managed network. Benefits:  Common operational model for cloud-native and traditional apps  C2C policies for app communication are enforced by NSX-T  ASGs are enforced by NSX-T  NSX Manager can be used to configure policies from apps to external entities (augment or replace ASGs)  Application identity - each Org gets an SNAT address  Leverage NSX-T features for logging, Traceflow and metrics across the data center  Silk will continue to be supported as the “batteries-included” plugin 46

CredHub’s access control ensures that only the application and the service broker can access their service instance credentials (and logs whenever credentials are fetched). Spring Cloud Services will make use of CredHub to share credentials with applications. More Pivotal tiles to follow. Custom service brokers can be configured to make use of CredHub to secure their service instance credentials. 47

Apps Manager includes workflows for users to quickly add and configure autoscaling for their applications.  Metrics Forwarder. When the Metrics Forwarder installed and enabled for a space, applications in that space will show a toggle. The toggle allows them to create and bind an instance of the Metrics Forwarder to their application. 48

  • Digital transformations are in high demand these days - it seems like every business wants one. But a digital transformation won't get very far without high performance development teams, and building them is easier said than done. It's especially challenging when many developers find themselves mired in non-value added activity. Join Forrester Vice President and Principal Analyst Jeffrey Hammond for an examination what developers tell us is impeding their productivity, and how successful shops are reinventing their development and delivery approach in response. We'll also review a holistic approach to transformation and the cultural and structural best practices that are leading shops to higher-performance, and the role modern platforms, tools and dev-ops tactics play in helping these teams deliver better outcomes.

58% of developers spend an hour or more a day writing code, but only 28% - a bit more that 1 in 4 spend 3 or more hours a day writing code.

But only 10% of devs spend 4+ hours a day writing code!

48% spend at least and hour a day building and integrating what they write!

46% spend at least an hour debugging or dealing w/ production support issues… essentially dealing w/ technical debt.

45% spend at least an hour a day designing new functionality and 33% spend at least an hour a day unit testing – that’s goodness! Although you might like to see it higher..

Building and Integration is almost tied at 48% of devs that spend at least an hour a day.
And 46% of devs spend at least an hour a day undoing the work that someone else did!
