- Welcome to the world of Optional Practical Training. Today we are going to discuss the current changes in OPT and the Cap-Gap provision to the H-1b applications. Introductions: Regina Henry, Coordinator of Immigration Elizabeth Scott, International Student Specialist, responsible for the initial attendance I-20’s, immigration advising, is going to begin processing OPT applications Introductions for the audience – especially if there are staff members
- Basic information – What is OPT? Not a second MS – if already taken one MS OPT
- Department Homeland Security must also continue to ensure that the extension remains limited to students with degrees in major areas of study falling within the technical field where there is a shortage of qualified, highly skilled U.S. workers.
- 90 days prior the end date of the degree program, and up to 60 days after the end date of the degree program 30 days of the date the DSO enters the recommendation for OPT into the SEVIS record. GPA problems -
- SEVP strongly recommends that the student not apply if there is a question on whether the student will complete the degree.
