- What is kinetic UI? We have defined this as what comes after multitouch? Looking at both at what happens on the screen and what is the physicality of interacting with that information. Better technology, with higher screen resolutions and faster processors and the capabilities of sensor create new opportunities for the mobile phone. Today, we are going to leverage some of these to brainstorm for kinetic UI experiences
- Brainstorming: Old ways of brainstorming don’t always work for gesture based interactions. Today we will provide a toolbox for you to help moved beyond them.

- Why deprivation? for a 360 degree design Take away parts of the experience for a new perspective We will ideate for where the holes are.
- Most of our interactions on the mobile device are on the screen. When we ignore the screen, what do we have left? The core of how we interact. Can’t start ideation with visuals. Physically creative, start with the form Ignoring the screen to think about surfaces and space from a fresh perspective Build off something you have done before: designing of the screen. Get away from focusing on touchscreens
- Sensors are giving us new capabilities that will allow us to have more environmental interactions They enable rich contextually aware experiences and can be used in many areas of life. Combinations of sensors provide unique new opportunities. Now that we have many different types of inputs. We get to try to design for that today.
- Either turn off your phone, use a paper prototype and examine your hardware. Become intimate with your hardware and familiar with the physicality of the object. Use a blank to ignore the screen while you brainstorm gesture-based solutions to mobile actions. Consider new types of input with sensors as you use the device.
- When you eliminate one sense, your other senses are amplified. What do we get when we rely on alternative senses to interact? Richer multi-sensory solutions.
- Limit your capabilities to notice different pain points and your instinctual responses to them.
- Knowledge in parallel disciplines will help refine your concept. What happens when we view concepts through a new lens? A holistic experience. UX & Motion Graphics Industrial Design & UX Most Successful: last in cycle iterative design (more than brainstorming)
- Collaboration with specialized designers will provide different perspectives to enrich your final solution. Just imagine if Don Norman and Michel Grondry worked together to create a gesture based ui.
