In the poem, the poet asks the soft-falling shower, ‘Who are you?’ to which she replies that she is the poem of earth. It is a strange thing for the rain to reply to the poet. The rain told the poet that she cannot be touched as she rises in the form of water vapour in the sky from the land and the bottomless sea. It changes its shape yet it remains the same. The vapour changes into clouds due to condensation.
It falls back on the surface of the earth to provide water to the drought-prone areas and to beautify and purify the earth (its birthplace). It provides life to the seeds inside the earth and helps them grow.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. KAHLIL GIBRAN
Kahlil Gibran was a Lebanese
American artist, poet and
writer. He is chiefly known in the
English speaking world for his 1923
book The Prophet, a series of
philosophical essays written
in English prose. His poetry
reflects his spiritual beliefs.
3. • A beautiful poem by Gibran in which he sings the
beauty of rain by giving it heavenly connotations
•.
• It is an ode to nature, rain in particular.
• The poet says that he is writing only for the sensitive
• People who would understand.
• The poem is absolutely awesome, and yet
inspirational.
•
5. The rain is divine. It falls from
the sky it appears
to be like silver threads. It calls
itself silver
threads as it connects heaven and
earth. It is
dropped by the god . As it drops
6. I am beautiful pearls, plucked from
the Crown of Ishtar by the daughter of
Dawn To embellish the gardens.
7. When the rain falls the hills are cheerful
because the rain
gives life. The word ‘cry’ here suggests
that it rains heavily
on hills. The echo of the rain sounds like
the laughter of the
hills. The rain ‘humbles’ means that it
falls moderately i.e.
neither heavy nor low. As a result the
flowers feel happy. Everything that
8. The field refers to earth and the
clouds refer to the heaven. The rain
as a messenger between the two
tries to connect them as it is divine.
It quenches the thirst of , of course
the earth. For earth is dry, it needs
water as water is an elixir of life.
Therefore the clouds burst resulting
9. The rain falls accompanied by thundering.
Its sound appears as if it announces the
arrival of rain. Soon after the rain falls
the beautiful rainbow appears in the sky
as if it is informing the earth about the
departure of the rain . The rain is as
short lived as is the man’s life on earth.
It comes and goes just as the man is born
10. The poet has described the rain here
in a scientific way. The water
evaporates from the sea to the great
heights of the sky and the water
vapors accumulate in the clouds.
These fall down on the earth in the
form of rain droplets. Thus rain falls
in millions of droplets , It falls in
11. The rain falls gently and its sound
is a proclamation of its arrival on
the earth. At the same time its
sound echoes which makes the rain
feel that it is being welcomed.
Every one hears the sound of rain
but those who are sensitive really
12. The water evaporating from the
sea has been referred as the sigh
of the sea. When the rain falls on
the earth it spreads joy as it is a
blessing particularly for the
farmers in the field. So the
laughter is referred to happiness
due to rain. The rain drops falling
13. The poet highlights qualities of the rain.
The rain is the sigh
of the sea when the water vapours rise
from the sea into the
sky. It spreads the laughter through the
colourful fields. It
means that rejuvenation takes place due to
the rain. The crops
which are the spirit of the field flourish.
14. The poem is written in the first person, and rain itself is the
speaker. It is described as something divine and characteristic of
gods. Rain is a divine gift of God and it proves very blessed for
the dry and needy earth. One of the most divine manifestations
of nature, it spreads joy and freshness all around. It beautifies,
adorns and revive fields, trees, flowers and spreads life
everywhere. Its droplets are like shimmering pearls and jewels
from God’s crown. It gives joy in all forms, the thunder
announces its arrival and the rainbow signifies its departure.
Rain cements the relationship of love between the fields and the
clouds. It takes birth from the depth of the sea, forms clouds and
its cycle completes the full circle when it descends down in a
million little ways. The arrival of the rain is like a welcome song,
beating softly on the windows. All in all, rain has a
multidimensional personality. It is born out of sighs, spreads
laughter and descends like tears. It ties the earth and heaven in a
spiritual bond, like a God, granting all wishes.
