Meaning of Curriculum
 In physical education, health
education and sports,
curriculum represents the
experiences that are
provided to the children and
young people, so that the
objectives of the profession
may be achieved.
 It acts as a tool for overall
development of child, which
is the aim of physical
education also.
DEFINITION OF CURRICULUM
Crow and crow: “curriculum includes all the
learner’s experiences in or outside the school that
are included in the programme, which has been
devised to help to develop mentally, physically,
emotionally, socially and morally”.
Important Points in it:
a) Emphasis on learning experiences.
b) Not limited to school boundaries only.
c) Aim at over all development of child.
d) Include syllabus, intramurals , extramural, co-curricular
activities, and other school or college activities.
Process of Curriculum Development
 systematic and logical
from beginning to end.
 consists of several
stages, each contribute
to overall material’s
quality.

1) Prepare a Preliminary
Plan
2) Determine curriculum
contents.
3) Determine terminal
and enabling objectives.
4) Identify materials
needed.
5) Review literature to
determine what
material are available.
6) Identify materials
lacking in content
areas.
7) Finalize the plan.
8) Conduct an intensive
literature review.
9) Prepare a first draft
10) Edit first draft.
11) Prepare a 2nd draft
12) Pilot test for 2nd draft.
13) Prepare a 3rd draft.
14) Field test for 3rd draft.
15) Prepare the final draft.
