Identity and Cultural Identity: How Culture Shapes Who We Are
1.
2. Identity and Cultural Identity
Identity -- A reflective self-conception or self-
image that we each derive from our family,
gender, cultural, ethnic, and individual
socialization process.
Cultural Identity -- Shared system of symbolic
verbal and non-verbal behavior meaningful to
a group. A social construction.
3. Relation Between Identity and Culture
this conditioning is a result of an individuals
culture - it informs our personal framework of
the world around us. In this light, the
relationship between culture and identity is one
that is synergetic, where the individual is quite
definitively shaped by his culture.
4. Differences Are the Spice of Life!
When we consider the different elements that affect
cultural distinctions, we realize that it all starts from our
moment of birth. Before we can even see, we hear
language all around us—and for the most part, the main
language we hear will become our mother tongue
language. That language ’s sounds, expression, and
melody will have a profound effect on how we develop
and communicate. As we grow up according to our
country ’s, region ’s, and even neighborhood ’s rules and
traditions, we develop cultural beliefs and values that will
remain with us throughout the rest of our lives.
5. Environmental Impact on Culture
Climate is a huge factor in different cultures. If a
group of people live in a cold place, they will most
likely wear thicker clothes, opposed to the thin
clothes worn by people in warmer places. Also, the
climate affects crops that can be grown, animals living
in an area, what houses look like, and so on.
6. Cultures Impact on Human Activity
Culture refers to the shared values, beliefs and norms of a
specific group of people. Culture, therefore, influences the
manner we learn, live and behave. Because of this, many
theorists believe that culture is an important shaper of our
personality.
7. Importance
Culture is important to us because it defines our
evolutionary identity. Culture helps us understand
our ancestral values and gives us the very meaning
of life. It also makes us unique from other parts of
the world.
8. Conclusion
Every Nation has different culture, that’s bring their
Identity. One generation learn their own culture from
their previous generation and their next generation
learnt from them. By this way Cultures stay alive.
So we should love our own culture and respect
others.
