4. X is a phrase that was seen as early as the 1750s and was popularized in movies
about the old west or ‘Westerns,’ where cowboys or Indians were shot or thrown
from their horses to land on the dusty ground, which precisely explains the
meaning of the phrase X.
X is also the name of the ability of the antagonist (Y) in the 3rd season of an
anime series aired in 2016. X is born from Y's desire to prevent anyone from
knowing his true identity. Whenever there is a risk of Y’s identity being revealed,
X activates and prevents Y’s identity from being revealed by killing the person
and rewinds time prior to detonation.

7. Initially, this particular phenomenon was attributed to _____ __________ syndrome.
After her capture during the French Revolution, witnesses alleged that something
happened to her due to the extreme stress she was under, until her eventual death.
There is no factual evidence for this though.
However, it was actually mentioned in the manga that the more likely reason for this
change was a spike in Rc levels, which could have affected his melanin production.
Symbolically however, the change could be due to the protagonist's life turning
completely upside down, from a shy, innocent man, to his eventual self.
What change am I talking about? What is the name of the syndrome?

10. X, the creator of Y, was asked about the inspiration behind Z in an interview back
in 2013. Z is actually quite unique and can only be seen in this anime/manga Y.
In the interview, X said that apart from the facial expressions, the idea for Z itself
came to him when he encountered a drunk customer at the Internet café he was
working at. He said he was inspired by the lack of the ability to communicate
even though the person was of the same species, and thought at that moment
that the most familiar and scary animal in the world is actually the human.
ID X, Y and Z.

13. When asked about how X got this unique ability, he explained that when he
arrived in Hollywood, he had to steal food to survive and eventually joined a
street gang because of it. He soon met a girl but she rejected him because he was
poor and she preferred to be with actual people.
Thus X learned this unique ability to impress her. This had the side effect that he
can't do the things that are supposed to be normal for him because he didn't get
the time to learn them.
ID X and the unique ability.

23. These are two hypotheses given as an explanation for one unnatural occurrence.
● The "wick effect" hypothesis suggests that a small external flame source, such as a
burning cigarette, chars the clothing of the victim at a location, splitting the skin
and releasing subcutaneous fat, which is in turn absorbed into the burned
clothing, acting as a wick. This fire can continue for as long as the fuel is available.
This hypothesis has been successfully tested with pig tissue.
● Another person has suggested that ketosis, possibly caused by alcoholism or
low-carb dieting, produces acetone, which is highly flammable and could therefore
lead to this occurrence.
Identify the unnatural occurrence and the anime which has been based on this concept.

26. While similar types of material has negative overtones, essentially being synonyms
for shitty entertainment in the United States, X (how it’s known in Japan) has the
almost exactly opposite connotation in Japan. This partially arises from the view
that these type of Western releases are not good enough (or too explicit) for theaters;
Xs, on the other hand, are seen as a step up from regular television production.
Because the production house need not adhere to the rapid-fire schedule or
constrained budget of a TV series, more effort and care can be applied to an X,
resulting in a much higher level of quality.
ID X.

29. In the 4Kids English dub versions of an anime, X’s name was changed to ____, to
avoid the copyright issue between a fictional swordsman Don Diego de La Vega.
The gap between the first appearance of both the characters is about 80 years.
Coincidentally, the alias of Don Diego da La Vega (image in next slide) is actually
the name of X. The name change is backed up by the fact that both the changed
letters have a similar Japanese pronunciation, and hence it didn’t cause much
trouble in the Japanese release of the anime.

For there is no cure for death…...

35. While coming up with a name for his manga/anime, the mangaka, decided to call
his work _____, since most of the characters used guns. But later, he realized
swords would be better than guns and because of this, he couldn’t use _____ as a
title anymore.
He began looking for a title that grasped the bigger picture and thought of calling
it a color X since it was associated with the plot element that was inspired by a
traditional Japanese god. He felt this was too simple a title and so was that color’s
inversion Y. So, finally the mangaka chose the current name to evoke the
impression of Y.
