Back in the 1980s, Marico’s founder Harsh Mariwala was looking to build a strong consumer
business for his coconut oil brand Parachute. Parachute was then sold in large 15L containers to
wholesalers and distributors. When it came to small containers for retail consumers, coconut oil was
available only in tin packs, in which Parachute had an insignificant market share.
Mariwala introduced plastic bottles for retail consumption. Plastic bottles looked more attractive,
more convenient to use and were also cost effective. However, retailers refused to stock the plastic
bottles as they feared that rats would gnaw through the bottles resulting in oil oozing and spoiling
other products.
Parachute came up with an idea and conducted an experiment by keeping bottles and rats together
in a cage from which the bottles came out unscathed. They were able to convince retailers by
sharing the observations of their experiments. Gradually, the retailers started stocking the Parachute
bottles and their demand started to grow.

To prevent the Pakistan from expanding the battle limited to the ______ sector, the Indian Navy

The late Vice-Admiral G.M. Hiranandani, a naval historian, in his book ‘Transition to Guardianship’

Pakistan’s weakness was further demonstrated when it started escorting its oil tankers from the

their warships to remain in harbor.
The escort operations revealed that the blockade of Karachi and interruption of oil supply from the
